The fear of minarets 7:56pm on 30 Nov 2009 Maybe this article should have been entitled "The Fear of Democracy" Is it not fortunate that we are doing all in our power to free the world from the tyranny of democracy.

No doubt all the people who have got it in for the Swiss are fresh back from an amiable and mature discussion with the Saudi Religious Police who have kindly agreed to stop executing proslytisers.
Appetite for fat cat taxes? 7:26pm on 30 Nov 2009 Is there no end to the self induced delusion of the population. Don't you understand that the debt is of such magnitude it can never possibly be repaid through money raised via taxation.

All the talk about taxing this or that group of people is just so much interference to assist people in thinking about anything other than the truth of the situation.

They are trying, but so far failing, to inflate the debt away. If that doesn't work they will go for formal default and just say we are not paying so take a close look at our guns instead.

But the holders of this toxic debt are not stupid and are making their own plans.

One way or another the general population is going to get crushed. I used to wonder how people could have been so stupid that they could not have headed off the long march to war in the 1930's. Now I no longer wonder as the answer is writ large in every asinine piece of "news" and the pavlovian responses to that "news."

In case it has escaped your attention the masters of finance have effectively captured governmental and regulatory bodies. Therefore these agencies merely follow the orders of the financiers. If they do not follow orders with sufficient vim and vigor they are removed from office. If you don't believe me check the historical record.

Sure some people abused "easy credit" but what do you expect them to do. Liars can't get liars loans unless there is a willing counterpart. Do you take no steps in your day to day life to prevent yourself being ripped off by the stupid or unscrupulous?

It is manifestly untrue to argue as you do that prosperity (in its current guise) drives the economy. In the US 0.1% of the population own 6% of the wealth. The simple and unargued consequence of such wealth concentration is that it leads to a reduction in the velocity of money circulation which in turn drives economic contraction.

Who cares if you tax expensive properties? Tax too much and the rich will up sticks and move and then those same properties will become rather more inexpensive. The whole thing is based on maintaining the housing asset ponzi scheme in any event.

Yeah right thne crisis is over and if we only squeeze a billion or so out of some rich guys house we can all live happily ever after.

So c'mon, c'mon tell the people why there is absolutely no desire to break up the "too big to fails" and just how anybody anywhere can understand what is in a $600 trillion derivatives portfolio, who can possibly bail this out if it all goes wrong, and why anyone anywhere has evidence that it will not all go wrong?

People wanting organ transplants cover the full spectrum of society - a lot of them cannot afford to pay for people to be murdered for their organs, and a lot more would find it morally repugnant.

People wanting to smear themselves with human fat are likely to be very rich. The very rich are likely to have long ago monetized their morals. Hence they can afford to have people killed for their fat. So what is the problem?

Maybe asking yourself why you are paying for this would be a more productive line of enquiry. You never know one day you might meet some live Peruvians who might be keen to understand why they should treat you any differently than they intend treating the people who have covered themselves in the fat of their friends.

Gold has been used as a store of wealth for at least 6,000 years. It is unlikely to lose this function by mere decree of contemporary oligarchs.

Why is gold rising? and why is the upward trajectory of gold not deemed newsworthy?

One possible explanation is that those with money understand all too well that the US administration is a criminal gang in the last phases of seeking to ramp their giant ponzi scheme. People with money have no interest in making public pronouncements to this effect, but every interest in switching their wealth as quietly as possible into something more solid than the US$. Unlike the US$ gold is limited in its supply, and herein lies another problem.

Look at the basis on which one Laurence Summers established his academic reputation, look at the main charges levied by GATA and look at the failure of Greenspan to deny those charges.

Why did Gordon Blair sell British gold at close to the bottom of the market? Is it just a question of crass stupidity, or were instructions from New York received?

Gold is a very specialised and technical market and few are experts. Is it not surprising that one section of the workforce witnessing an exponential rise in demand for its services is Gold Assayers. Why would this be? Why is there a largely unreported, but undenied, story that Hong Kong has discovered that it has taken possession not of gold but of gold covered tungsten.

Gold is more than a token - it serves as an early warning system that something somewhere is not right. The mice have been nibbling away at the hard wired code, but in the end gold does not rely on external power sources to serve its function.

You do not need to own gold or even aspire to own gold in order to benefit from its early warning function.

If some of the more "extreme" claims are correct what do you think will happen when the lid blows off this whole deal? The truth will be known on this because the Chinese are busy stoking the furnace to build pressure. If the release valves have been closed then the Chinese will ensure that the whole thing will explode.

It will not be pretty, and both money and reputations will be vaporised. If the BBC is still around no doubt it will be "unexpected" "surprising" and "unforeseeable"

Did I want to pay money to shore up the Khmer Rouge, or to kill what is now approaching 2 million Iraqi's since 1990? The answer is No. Did anyone really want to do these things? Most probably they didn't, but they didn't care enough to do anything about it, or they were misinformed by the pernicious dissembling of the mainstream media.

People are deluded and they need to become free of delusion. They need to do this themselves, as no-one else can do it for them.

It is not likely to happen. You try and tell people some of the things that have been done in their names and they respond with outrage and abuse. They don't want to know, they prefer delusion.

The US military developed a computer program that purported to show that the lives of 80,000 Rwandans were equivalent to the life of 1 US Marine. They used this program to justify doing nothing about the Rwandan genocide. This is not news, no-one is interested. The newspapers seem very interested in many other forms of discrimination - like how male traders get a $5 million bonus, but female traders only get a $2 million bonus for doing the same work. That kind of stuff is news.

The only person of whom I am aware that tried to publicise the inaction in Rwanda and the reasonss behind it suffered a mental collapse and attempted suicide. That was not news either. No-one is interested, they prefer delusion.

Full spectrum meltdown is coming - but no-one wants to know about that because true to form they prefer the comforting fog of delusion.

Consider that in Peru criminal gangs have sprung up with a speciality of murdering fat people and draining their fat for onward sale into the US. Apparently human fat is much prized as an anti ageing product and retails in the US for around $60,000 per gallon.

Seems pretty extreme to me!!
Dubai: Just a sideshow? 9:20pm on 28 Nov 2009 83 Dempster. The western financial system is systemically bankrupt. Like a cancer banks grew their balance sheets in an uncontrolled and uncontrollable manner.

Their ultimate hedge was capture of governments and democratic institutions. They have leveraged their capture of government to force the sequestration of wealth from the general populace in order to temporarily shore up their balance sheets.

One consequence of the foregoing is the situation as you describe it.

Whether the general population has done nothing wrong is a mute point. They could have resisted the forces that led to the capture of democratic institutions, just as their forefathers fought to create, develop and maintain institutions that could assist the general population. They did not do so. Who should protect the young if not their parents? So, if the young are to suffer then, perhaps it is self evidently obvious that they have been failed by their parents.

No force of nature has led to the present situation, it is man made. Some were guilty of acts of comission and others guilty of acts of omission. Does it matter?

As Bob Dylan sang - A hard rain is gonna fall, so it would be best if people prepared themselves to survive as best they can. Full spectrum meltdown is coming, meet it like a man, and do not expect governments to save you. The only thing that is to be done with government is to seek to weaken it sufficiently so that it dare not follow the next orders of their paymasters which will be to ramp up the war effort.

Regretfully the population remains deluded and it does not seem likely that they will use their power to derail the slow march to the final meltdown.
Dubai: Just a sideshow? 6:10pm on 28 Nov 2009 76 glanafon - Yep everyone will try inflation, problem is they may not make it. Not looking promising at the moment, methinks you need a lot more supply destruction before you can stoke the inflationary fires.

Tis a dangerous game they play. Their money printing cannot forestall the destruction to the supply base. But once a currently unknown but sufficient amount of supply is destroyed then its hello Zimbabwe.

Assuming that the men with the guns can stay confied to barracks (a big assumption) then the only hope is to sit on something of value (gold and silver spring to mind) and then exchange that for hard assets as close to the bottom as you can time things. The window of opportunity is likely to be small.

Every other strategy leads to wipe out.

Things are not promising as most people don't seem to realise that one of the first things to be wiped out will be the ability of government to provide for its citizens. People are going to be on their own, and only a fool would think there will be someone coming to rescue them. The big danger is that a fool will come to rescue them and the people will mistake the fool for a messaih. I believe Mssrs Cortes and Pizarro once benefitted from a similar misunderstanding - although I will spare you the quotes.
