Nicest people in sport - My Top 20 11:43am on 18 Nov 2009 What about Henry Cooper and Frank Bruno. Both very likeable blokes. Also you have Tiger Woods, Lewis Hamilton who also seem very pleasant and likeable as well.

If they don't have to still be alive then surely Sir Bobby Robson would be there as well.

On the breakfast front you have to drop the black pudding but put in fried bread and also a few beans but not too many.
Winter Olympics - where anything can go wrong 11:36am on 18 Nov 2009 Eleanor you have failed to mention anything about probably the hardest and most difficult sport in both winter or summer Olympics. What about the biathlon!! You will have a Norwegian man Ole Einar Bjørndalen who already has 5 gold medals going for more. If you look at his record you will see all his achievements and will be amazed at how long he has stayed at the top of his profession.
Is there a flaw in the 2012 legacy pledge? 1:48pm on 26 Oct 2009 Lets face it who really has thought that the games will produce some kind of legacy for London. Very few Olympic games, villages have been used properly since they played hosts to the games.

It won't inspire young people to play sport. If they want to play sport they will be doing that already. It might be a waste of money but lots of tourists will still be attracted to the area so at least one sector should be happy.

Maybe transport as well will have improved as well but I can't see anything else happening.

To say to put the money in things like F1 is ridiculous as that is a private sports company run by a few powerful people in which they do not want to help the arenas they already go to whilst making hundreds of millions of pounds. I still don't understand why the government have not spent more money on grass root level like building more swimming pools or sports halls.

Also in the past with the government and some councils anti competitive school sports days have ruined playing sport for being politically correct.

I do think the Olympics will be a success but not necessarily on the track or arenas.

Yes the club is in debt but surely it is Benitez they should be marching against as it's his poor team selection and subsitution that have caused the problems. Not being either fan I hope it's a good game and a Man U win.

Two worlds collide at Arsenal AGM 10:57am on 23 Oct 2009 Gordon I can't understand how you "can't quite work Arsenal out!". Being a sports journalist you should know that Arsenal is steeped in tradition and is run by the directors that only have the best interest of the club at heart. People buy shares in Arsenal not for dividends but for the love of the club and it's values. Well that's if they can afford them as they are about £8,500 a share so "tapas and pinot gris types" is more to the mark instead of beer and coffee.

I can't see anything wrong in the way they run the club and bring in modern business men and women that help move the club forward in how they do everything but within the Arsenal way. How many other clubs can you look at today and say they still hold the same values even with the change of directors recently and majority shareholders as well.

From what Kroenke has said in the past he admires the way the club is being run and its philosophy so why would he decide to change it if he takes over total control. But with the debt coming down and the repayments that are manageable then the club should be debt free within a decade or two.

How come the BBC always seem to portray Arsenal in a negative light when the club listen to the fans and run a football club properly which has also helped transform a part of London and was one of the biggest privately funded regeneration programs in years. Also as some have said with the new UEFA rulings about clubs managing living within their own means you should be applauding the way they are being run!!
The day Lee Dixon took the tube to Highbury 1:31pm on 22 Oct 2009 No 40. He has brought in and through young players. Some have not been good enough or have been impatient to learn and stay at the club in a lesser role to start off with. Bentley, Sidwell, Upson, Cashley are just a few.

I have to disagree with you about true fans as they really want to win silverware and do not care where the players come from especially now it is such a global game. Fans don't want to see 6 or 7 local players if they are not at the top fighting for trophies. All clubs have this problem but with the way Wenger has built the club and the academy you will see more and more local players either coming through to the first team or going to lesser teams because they don't have that extra bit that is required to play for the 1st team.
The day Lee Dixon took the tube to Highbury 11:15am on 22 Oct 2009 I'm a bit confused about this blog as the link had a picture of Wenger and "He has unfinished business" and the title in the blog is "The day Lee Dixon took the tube to Highbury". Apart from a couple of facts about Chapman that I either didn't know or forgot about then I don't see the point of it.

Eleanor in your response to people you mentioned there wasn't too many old stadia around. Well a lot of Gooners will know that the stands are actually grade 2 listed buildings so could not be knocked down.

Comment 9. You may be right that we haven't won the Champions League yet but cam very close to it when we just lost in the finals a few years ago. But then how many teams throughout Europe can claim to have gone a whole season without loosing a league match. Surely that's just as impressive.

Wenger will not leave the club until he comes to the end of a contract. He has built the club up from improving the training grounds to the new stadia. Well he has had a helping hand in it as I know the club and board members look after the club well.

I know we haven't won anything for a few years but the way Wenger has transformed the way the professionals act and bringing through the next generation is a legacy that other clubs look at and copy.

He is one of the great managers that come along like Ferguson, Clough, Shankley, Paisley and Chapman. He still had a lot to prove to himself as a manager and with the youth coming through I can see him in a couple of years from now mentioning a conversation where he said it takes about 10 years to bring through the youth that he started to develop. We can see it with the likes of Gibbs and Wilshire and hopefully many more.

He is a man with a lot of integrity and a true professional and gentleman.

Skeleton key to Winter Olympic medals 11:51am on 07 Oct 2009 It just proves that you don't need all the right conditions to be top of the game!!

It's great to see us working hard and being truly world contenders in these sports. It's a shame there isn't more funding for all the smaller sports instead of wasting it on athletics because it is supposedly the blue ribboned Olympics events.

Come on lets show them and the other winter sports how good our country is.
