Capello allows his mask to slip 5:36pm on 02 Apr 2009 Most on here seem to have forgotten all about Joe Cole and where he fits in on his return, as he surely must?

An earlier poster suggested Rooney up front - a complete disaster, as he doesn't have the discipline to play the role of a lone striker. Gerrard can't be on the left with the return of Cole, so who is going to make way?

On last night's evidence you'd have to think Lampard - he was totally anonymous during the game and, as Gerrard would have to go back into midfield to accomodate Cole and Rooney, it's got to be a CM pairing of Gerrard and Barry (or Carrick, or Hargreaves) as the Gerrard/Lampard pairing does not work (IT DOESN'T - STOP TRYING TO PRETEND IT EVER WILL, PUNDITS AND SUCCESSION OF MANAGERS!)

Then we can have Rooney in a second striker role alongside the only choice as main striker, Michael Owen who, lest we forget, is the fourth highest-scoring England striker of all time and a must for the big occasion.

Far from being the Great White Hope of English football, the player has steadily deteriorated in quality AND temperament to the point where he is a liability.

Never mind that he is surplus to requirements, what with the emergence of Gerrard as the obvious choice for the second striker role and Rooney's inability to score enough goals as a CF. So with a midfield of (take your pick on the right), Lampard and Barry/Hargreaves/Carrick in the middle and Cole on the left, where does that leave Rooney?

Where were these people? Hiding in the same toilet before the match that Ferguson supposedly was following the game in order to avoid questions regarding the total ineptitude of his 'team' following their humbling annihilation?
