A point in favour 1:15pm on 04 Jul 2009 So Stephanie, you are rejoicing that on average every worker is 1.2% worse off in this country. Perhaps we can make it to 10% worse off and you and all your fellow economists and industrialists can throw some champagne parties to celebrate.

If things carry on, we might even make it back to the industrial heyday of the victorian era, where we all work twelve hours a day for a pittance !

That may sound ridiculous, but you are stating that workers earning less is good news, but how far do you take that argument !
Friday 3 July 2009 10:55am on 04 Jul 2009 I would like to add to previous comments about the recent birth of the 'themed' newsnight. I am a busy working parent who likes to sit down at the end of the week and listen to educated comments about books, theatre or film recently released. I do this in the hope of coming across a subject that will inspire me to extend myself above the latest trashy novel or film that is my usual fare.

Alas, I have been disappointed again, this time with an Iranian themed review. What is Newsnight's loss is Jonathon Ross's gain I suppose. Am I destined to see the latest Sandra Bullock's romcom after all ?!

Please, could Newsnight review revert back to it's non-themed status once more ?

Am I missing something here, or is this the subprime fiasco again. The government being the fall guy for dodgy loans supplied by the banks !

Why do you think that Mervyn King would do anything other than back his boss Gordon ?

Whatever David Cameron says now will be lost in the midst of time when the next election comes around. It will be the deeds that are actually performed by the current government that will be judged. Basically not good news for Gordon then !
