3,000 x (£1,000,000 - £325,000) = £2,025,000,000

i.e. £2.025 billion, not 3 billion. If you are going to play fantasy IHT, at least get the basics right.

A couple of points

(1) It wasn't that the Chancellor sold the gold, it was the naive way in which he did it that is the bine of contention.

(2) Over investing (by spending more than you have) is almost as bad as under investing, because cuts will have to happen at some stage and people will have got used to the slightly better performance of the NHS. A minor improvement compared to the billions thrown at the problem without any major reform, and a legacy of PFI 'mortgages' for your children to pay off.
