Australia - how was it for you? 09:28am on 12 Dec 2008 It was a tad predictable and in parts tacky but as entertainment it was not too bad. Very very Baz Lurham, I like his movies.
3 & half stars.

However the overdramatising of the attack on Darwin was a bit dissapointing, will the public believe that it was factual? Was Baz trying to do a Pearl Harbour? I also felt David Welham needed a handlebar moustach to twirl whilst being evil.

Great job by the boy but will he get anymore work? This country has a history of only casting aboriginals when you need an aboriginal. They are never just a neighbor or friend who happens to be aboriginal and that fact is not mentioned. In movies and on TV all aussies are white unless there is a specific need for them not to be.

Late last year we relieved ourselves of ten years of conservative government.

Believe me, the feeling of relief and freedom was amazing.

At the movies 10:43am on 30 Oct 2008 I agree The Fringe Dwellers is a great film and another not mentioned is Walkabout with David Gullpulil.

As for the migrant experience try Silver City or for something more gritty how about Head On.

I have no issue with safety measures on qantas, I didn't whinge about that. I complained about the poor attitude of the cabin crew ppp089. As you point out...wait for the facts...I would point out to you...read the facts.

As for your remark about lazy aussie maintenance crew. The facts are that these problems have arisen SINCE overseas work has been done. Previous to this it was all done here and that is when qantas's safety record was at its best thanks to all those striking lazy australians (your words not mine)
Turbulence at Qantas 1:44pm on 08 Oct 2008 Like a lot of aussies I have always had a soft spot for qantas. I can ignore thier so called maintenance problems, they happen to all airlines, but I can't ignore the new attitude to passengers.

Is it just me but the last few flights I have taken both domestic and international, the crew seriously needed a holiday themselves.

I don't expect subservience at all, but guys a smile and a pleasant attitude goes a long way. However I have found out how nice a flight on singapore is.

In the period of 1996 to 2001, acording to ncls.org.au 1,524,700 australians attended church of any denomination. That is an overall drop of 7%. Of that number 26% were catholics, a drop of 13%. In a population of 20 million you can see that is a very small percentage of us.

No-fault divorce has been around since the 70s. The pill has been on the free list since the 60s. Condoms can be purchased at any supermarket, convenience store, petrol station or pub toilet. Gays have the same rights as anyone ( barring marriage ) Stem cell research progresses. Abortion is not legal but is avaliable, the debate continues on that.

As you probably know, the pope opposses all the above and yet here they are, legal.
So maybe you do overestimate the popes influence here. So maybe non protestants can think for themselves.

Thanks for clearing up who the queen is for me. For a country of so many catholics, far more than protestants, why does our head of state have to be head of the church of england. Seems to me the 759,900 church going protestants in this country have a dispropportionate influence.

Two completely different situations(in my opinion) our head of state represents us to the world and should reflect who we are as a people.

Historically we have a low ratio of regular churchgoers so I would question how much influence the pope actually has over legislation.

If there are people out there who think the pope is infallible well what can I say about that, they can choose to believe whatever they want no matter what I think of them. I just cant see where the catholic church has a substantial influence over my life.

Unlike the pope maybe Im wrong, can someone clear it up for me?
