Protectionism wasn't the problem 1:10pm on 04 Feb 2009 Politicians, Institutional bankers and the spin doctor classes of financial services have had 40 years of telling what is right and wrong about the economy and the harsh facts that they are not admitting to themselves is that they are all wrong and their theories have failed.FACT.

An eminent and sensible economist in Davros said last week that it was a mistake to pour money into sick and dying banks. He was right.

The money would have been better spent clearing the debt of businesses and individuals and getting the economy moving. All governments have done is stuff money into banks and banks have kept it and are still not servicing the economy.

We should forget that banks are money making machines; they are suppliers of services and money; end of story.

Now our politicians are saying that protecting borders and industry is not the right thing to do even though it is practiced everywhere except Britain.The biggest problem is that our politicians haven't done a real job in their lives and couldn't run a tap; they are all non job theoreticians guided by over zealous and lazy over paid public servants.

Blocking our borders for three years would be a good thing.Stop anything and everything from entry that can be produced or grown here! It would get our clothing, furniture, food, farming , vehicle industries, engineering industries really moving. Our only real exports in the last 30 yrs has been financial services and that has now sunk.If anyone wanted to import, they would have to open their doors to us exporting to them on certain things.

Mandleson and Brown and the feather nested big boys are so out of touch and far removed from reality that they do not know what is happening in their own back yard.

We are seeing long established firms of over 150 yrs old collapsing into bankruptcy daily. People who have worked hard, are well educated and honest are being dragged into bankruptcy when they should be retired and all they do is give us sweet rhetorical platitudes.

Brown and the Establishment and particularly the Financial Services sector and fat cat corrupt politicians and civil servants are feeding the green shoots of revolution and it will be bloody.

God Save Britain as our politicians won't.
Everything will change 08:42am on 01 Feb 2009 I am afraid to say that the chattering classes of big bosses and assorted fiscal experts and politicians have really not seen the big picture yet.

Britain,France,Russia and Germany are closer to civil war or revolution than they have been since the thirties.

The financial sector has been allowed to destroy the real powerhouse that was Britain; that sector caused inflation and caused the high property costs that are now the root of the problem in the UK.

Captalisim, the monetary system, banking has failed spectacularly and all we hear is how difficult it will be in the next few months.#

It is going to be increasingly difficult over the next decade and possibly two decades.

This country is in such a shambles that a determined group could take it over easily and all of the seeds of such a takeover are germinating now.

We neeed leaders who can think out of the box and lead more than ever now.
Lend, lend, lend 10:43pm on 18 Jan 2009 Treasury initiatives are as much use as yesterdays toilet paper or the UN requests for appeasment.

Anything that HM gov does in relation to the present financial crisis is hamstrung by a lack of resolve and direction and a tendency to look back to past financial crises which have no common denominators with this one.

The so called guaranteed loan schemes and other initiatives dreamt up by Whitehall are so hide bound in red tape that no one can make sense of them and therefore banks simply do what they want which is to accumulate cash on behalf of its investors regardless of how it gets that cash.

Some say the Banking sytem has failed.

I say that THE MONETARY SYSTEM HAS FAILED.

This is the first time in history where so many people have been given or allowed or held financial power.

The banking system has collapsed as it cannot cope with the many financial demands society has put upon it.It has also been unregulated and allowed sharp con men to create an industry, and many cons from money.

MONEY IS THE OIL THAT LUBRICATES BUSINESS THAT CREATES WEALTH; IT IS NOT A BUSINESS IN IT'S OWN RIGHT.

The present financial system we all work to was derived from a system where only a very small percentage of people could influence it.....................................in the 21st century; it is obvious that that financial system is inadequate and downright dangerous.

Now is the time for new values.....................do we need money?
A bank insurer, not a toxic bank 09:04am on 18 Jan 2009 This insurance scheme is just another fudge. Our glorious leaders should understand that the banks are simply administrators of money and therefore wealth.They are not the backbone of wealth.

The generators of wealth are businesses and they need money. The banks have failed to manage money and it is obvious we are simply filling in bottomless pits by pouring billions into them. The structures, organisations, philosophies still exist.They have to be dismantled NOW.

As a means of facilitating a new system I believe that all UK banks should be nationalised and amalgamated into one bank. Only then will we be able to see the true scale of losses; toxic assets; waste, fat cat gravy boats; inefficiency; duplication and money guzzling nonsense.

Only then will we be able to re engineer a banking system that works for business and wealth creation and NOT simply to bloat itself and its over paid managers who haven't authority to manage anything.

Once we have stability we can then look at privatising sectors of banking that will be run properley as a service industry to business not as a wealth creator in its own right.

Until such a drastic move is made I fear that we are going to fudge and haemorrage.
End of the British carrot? 5:03pm on 13 Jan 2009 Production of crops using minimal pesticides is obviously a good thing. The best way to achieve this is by genetically engineering resistant characteristics into the carrot parents.

Unfortunately if politicians continue to stick their noses into agriculture, having been briefed by anally retentive jobsworths with no practical experience, we shall end up producing less food than ever.

The reality is that the world needs to double its food production in the next twenty years and the resources just are not there. Chopping away at well managed tools such as pesticides controlled by sophisticated computer programmes linked to weather stations simply makes food production more difficult and much more expensive.

Providing that pesticides are managed and controlled and used specifically they are safe.The fear mongering, I am quite sure in many cases,relates to vast amounts of chemical being eaten over hundreds of years which just would not happen.
Irresponsible or prudent? 08:20am on 16 Nov 2008 Whereas Brown is accusing Osborne of playing politics with Sterling, the opposite is the truth.

Osborne is simply stating the obvious. He is being truthfull which is always a problem in politics.

The UK Sterling sector has relied on financial services as its driver for over 30 years. That sector is now in freefall globally.

We have little or no manufacturing; agriculture has been bound by red tape and stifled;technology transfer is too long term for short term financiers and we have borrowed over 60% of our worth to get out of a mess created by financial sector greed.

60% of GDP is from government funds directly or indirectly and that will get higher as unemployment soars. My guess 4 to 5 million in 2010.

There is no point in investing in Sterling when you look at that scenario.

Like Wilson, will Brown come out with a crass phrase like "devaluation will not make any difference to the pound in your pocket" next year. (I am showing my age)

My bet is 85 pence per Euro by March.

Who benefits from rate cut? 07:12am on 07 Nov 2008 The rate cut should have been made last year at this time.

Unfortunately the academics in the BOE don't know what real life is about and as a result they have shut the door after the horse has bolted. No vision!

Rates will fall to 1% or even zero by June 09 so best get it over with next month.

The credit card companies are owned by the banks and contribute to their massive profits because they use money lenders rates of 18% to 30% plus.

This should be reduced to 3% over base immediately and indeed any bank lending more than 3 over base should be taxed 95% on ALL profits and their directors should be taxed 95% too.

That would sort out the "dilemma" of the charlatons not passing on interest reductions.

As for Supertax we should apply this to gas, water and communication companies too.

What are the banks going to do with the million or so houses that are going to be taken over and sold cheaply next year?

Every month the prices will just go down, loweing the market even more. The banks will not recover their money and HM gov. will have to pay millions out on benefits to rehouse people whilst thousands of houses lie empty in the country.

Obviously no one has thought this mess through yet.

And our den of thieves in 2008 are our bankers and their supporters and the politicians who hide truths from the people.

The system of money has died; it cannot work in a just society and it has imploded through the greed and self preservation that drives it.

We need another set of values and means of distributing that which is part of all of us.

Communisim failed and now Capitalism has failed.................................................Maybe it is time for Spiritualisim............................non material and fair!.......and right.

In 100 years everyone or almost everyone on earth today will be in spirit and equal.............make it easier by acting accordingly now...................................which is what Jesus was saying!
Why interest rates aren't falling 2:47pm on 02 Nov 2008 The banks that were badly run appear to have been saved mainly by public money and are simply reverting to the status quo.

We are going to see 4 to 5 million unemployed in the Uk in the next two years, probably 500,000 or more houses re possessed and thousands of businesses going under.

Banks working for society could prevent much of this pain and the only way to ensure that is to nationalise the whole lot from top to bottom until hostilities are ended so to speak.
