Ethical Man is reborn 8:50pm on 16 Feb 2009 Gee, can't wait to be found fat and wasteful....these stories do nothing to help anything. Why come to the US? Obviously to point the finger at some other party...again. Seems like a huge waste of time.

When did global warming start? Scientists universally point to the industrial revolution - which happened prior to the existence of the United States.

This is nonsense. Obviously this person either has never been to LA or has only stayed in upper class and tourist areas. Much of LA walks and takes public transit. Open your eyes and see the actual city, not the tourist traps.

The rest of us have things to do other than take the time to talk to media. So, you get the know-nothings who just want someone to turn a camera on them; people who like that sort of attention. Polls are basically BS.

Idiots tend to not be all that well informed.
Stretching America 12:20pm on 05 Nov 2008 Oh please. Americans would sooner vote for Tina Fey than Palin. She is a toy that they dressed up to fit the part - she would make Bush look erudite. Even with coaching she could not speak in full sentences.

The GOP could throw a dart and hit a better candidate. Non-starter.

When do you think a minority candidate will win the highest office in the UK - or in any EU country?

I think Europeans need to change their views on what America and Americans actually are. You know, throw out lazy generalizations...and get some facts instead.

I have always voted and I don't eat fast food. You should look at how much the UK scarfs down though.
Park life 04:28am on 28 Sep 2008 Just like anywhere else - the American trailerpark experience varies. My parents lived in one for the first few years of my life - My Father was a construction worker who was also attending school at night after earning the money for tuition serving in the navy(He speaks two foreign languages fluently, has lived abroad and has his Bachelors and two advanced degrees) The easiest and cheapest way to travel around from college to college with a family of four was to have the trailer.

Everyone was very nice in most of the parks we wound up staying in. The whole family has done well for itself - all went through the public school system in various parts of New York state, followed by the excellent New York State University system (SUNY). Almost all are liberal democrats.

I used to get upset when someone would drop the term "trailer trash" when talking about ignorant types in front of me - because they never thought it would apply to me. Now I let them know that I am the result of trailerpark life.

As someone whose family has worked in healthcare - universal healthcare will come. It has to, we are at the breaking point. The cash is there - it's just that the insurance co.'s and the drug companies are gorging on it.

I though Hillary had the best Healthcare plan - but there is too much $$$ at stake for the OP to ever do something about the problem.

A political bloodbath 10:47pm on 18 Sep 2008 No, @iceph03nix, I was plenty annoyed by his glancing and wildly inaccurate LA columns too - just hadn't bothered to register so that I could respond. Now that I see it is a pattern - I post.

I realize that the route is planned, and that there is limited time to get off the bus and talk to people - but come on, this is getting ridiculous. No one who has travelled or lived in the West is being represented realistically here.
A political bloodbath 10:26pm on 18 Sep 2008 @coffeennicotine - we criticise Jon's posts because he is doing a p*ss poor job of seeing the country and depicting it's people. Other than taking a load of photos of great scenery - he might as well have stayed in the UK.

Basic standards of journalism still apply to professional news blogs.

We still read because we are annoyed at the disinformation - it's almost worthy of the Bush camp really. Except painting us all with the same wrong color.
A political bloodbath 10:22pm on 18 Sep 2008 I have to agree with @baltimoremike - you are consistently hitting the "narrowminded European top 10 myths of America" in your posts. I am originally from he East (New York) and currently reside in the West, and your portrayal is about as fair and balanced as FOX News.

Please try to step outside your preconceived views an actually SEE the country and it's people. Why bother with the usual propaganda?
