Ruff justice? 5:53pm on 05 May 2009 Derry City Council in Northern Ireland has dog licensing. £5 per year and a discount if you have more than 3 dogs. I have never seen a dog warden or any implementation of existing by-laws - such as fouling, dogs off leash in the streets etc. We do have poo bins - lots of them. People are happy to pick their noses in public and scratch their privates, but they find picking up dog poo disgusting. My personal view is that education of owners will solve most dog problems. The people I meet walking dogs off lead know their dogs and know when and where trouble could start. I trust them, they trust me. Happy days, as we say here.

Clearly freedom of speech is some kind of blasphemy at the BBC. The word I used rhymes with dental. I sense a whole new vocab coming on.

So, bbc, join me in praying for our souls everywhere, particularly the merchant bankers.

Behaviour and Special Educational Needs. 5:14pm on 06 Feb 2009 A friend's daughter came home from school in September with bruises and said it was because she was sitting next to a hamburger. Yes dear, said my friend. It turns out that the "bruiser" has Asperger Syndrome and he is one of several SEN pupils in the class. The teacher demands patience and understanding from the whole class. So far so good. But my friend feels that the - crikey, what's the nice way of putting it?!! non-SEN pupils are being neglected in all sorts of areas. Her daughter is frankly bored out of her mind at school because she's too young to pace ahead herself, and too bright to go at the laborious pace of the class. There are little things too, like "bruiser" gets a star for not kicking for a whole day, while "bruisee" gets a telling off for locking herself in the stationery cupboard to get away from him. Something's not right here. I would suggest that the teacher does not have either the training or the support to cope. The kids are 7 and 8 years old.

Blizzard '09 continues. 5:33pm on 05 Feb 2009 I've just received a brilliant carpet cleaning tip from a Norwegian. If you have "dry" snow - not slushy - throw your rugs on it and tramp all over them. Give them a shake and hey presto. I'd love to say I'd tried it and it worked, but we have no snow.

Non, je ne regrette rien 3:43pm on 05 Feb 2009 "Doh, doh, doh!" I have failed to put my brain in gear so many times. But I now think it's genetic becuase my mother is worse.

She once said "How she could think a doctor would seriously consider marrying her, when she's only a haridresser." Fair enough if she was at home when she said it, but she was at the hairdressers. The comment was made to the girl's sister, scissors in hand.

I once said at work, "If that [expletive deleted], who looks like she spends all day sucking lemons, tells me one more time to blah, blah blah." I put down the phone, turned round, and there she was, looking more like a bulldog who had swallowed a wasp in fact. It was an ice-breaker in a way. We have remained good friends 10 years after I left that job.

The Glass Box for Wednesday. 5:36pm on 04 Feb 2009 I think I'm having a deja vu day. Didn't we admit to rendition when Tone was in the chair? I was sure we had. I was sure that was the basis of the "special relationship" back then. Please correct me if I am wrong bloggers.
And libraries - didn't we do them a couple of months ago? I think if I'd heard that bloke saying (paraphrase) "Self-expression. That's about expressing yourself." and that other bloke saying, "We have to improve the culture offer" I would have voted to close 'em all down.
