"Moodys has downgraded Banco Santander by one notch due to its large expose to the Spanish, US and UK economies. Moody's has downgraded the Spanish bank to Aa2 from Aa1 and has reduced its bank financial strength rating to B- from B."
Only in the UK? 12:31pm on 17 Jun 2009 Stephanie, you neglected to mention whether this appointment is one of Brown's or Mervyn's. I understand Brown appoints about half of the "independent" MPC?
Age of austerity 1:52pm on 24 Apr 2009 Nick, you should have changed your approach once his avoidance first became apparent. "What does a director yell at the end of a scene?" "What do you do to a pack of cards to decide who's dealer?" "What word is an anagram of T.U.C.?" It would be worth doing this to make the point during the interview and could well become a Youtube hit; proper fame compared to being an editor at the BBC.

We are the monolines now 11:28am on 24 Mar 2009 "tn" as trillion. Haven't seen that before. Shows how common is has become to bandy about trillions that it's not worth typing the word out anymore. But is there some international standard saying it's "bn" for billion and "tn" for trillion in the same way the banking world agrees on GBP and USD? Google doesn't have trillion for a search on "define:tn".

Well, Brown switched targets then from RPI to CPI because it meant cheaper rates for voters. Wonder if he's pushing for Eurostat to finally put housing back into CPI now that RPI is miles lower than CPI instead of above it, like is the norm.

Rock revival 5:02pm on 23 Feb 2009 Robert, all the news coverage of this story has failed to state, or even raise the issue of, what salary multiple will be allowed in this new lending? Are we back to sane 3*salary lending or is a 90% mortgage available at 6*salary?

And why does Brown think it's a good idea to lure first-time buyers, who haven't experienced a market bust before due to his boom-boom-boom, into a falling housing market with only 10% equity to avoid negative equity when the other lenders are pricing in much bigger falls?
' 5:56pm on 29 Jan 2009 Thank deity the Lib Dems'll never be in power and in charge of education. Arguments such as the emergency services may not be able to find the caller's location when searching by computer are ridiculous. Let's be grateful there'll never be commissioning Government IT projects either. Any program worth its salt would cope with apostrophes and "St." versus "Saint", etc.
