Bill on fire 07:09am on 02 Oct 2008 Hmmm...... The last time I checked the US government was hugely in arrears with the UN on their dues..... Money which might have gone towards the UN being able to afford sending observers and peace keepers to more world hot spots..... I guess seeing as how the UN voted AGAINST sending forces to Iraq (I wouldn't have either based on some grainy photos of a goat shed in the middle of the desert that I was told was PROOF that the Iraqi Goverment had WMD) the US needed the cash to fund their own war against not having their oil...... sorry, I meant war to liberate the Iraqi people.... You know, the one that started over the WMD.... err..... against terrorists in Iraq..... umm..... well.... whatever...... :)
Political football 07:22am on 29 Sep 2008 I find it interesting just how little importance is placed on education vs. entrepreneuralship. If you look down the list of countries that excell in giving their children a good education, and offer breaks for advanced education you will find that they rank the highest in all tests, all across the board. It's easy to turn around and say 'Everyone for themselves' but the fact is that the children are our future, and I personally would prefer to have someone looking after me in my old age who has not only an education, but also the background of 'community' and caring in them. Not one who lives for a dollar and having more toys than the next person. Until the world comes to realise that we all need one another we'll continue to have conflict and wars. "A society is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable citizens". Look around your own countries as you would the mirror and be honest with yourselves...... I have.... and I'm ashamed that we spend too much time trying to get the other guys money and not enough time and effort on those less fortunate.
Lotta sense on Palin 09:13am on 16 Sep 2008 To me, the simple fact that Sarah Palin has even made it this far demonstrates that the aristocracy of talent is not taken into consideration any longer in US politics. G.W.? Let's see.... NOT the brightest candle on the cake and yet he was back for a second term of "Make no mistake about it..."? Is Sarah Palin even capable of making a decent stand (on her own) of any of the other issues aside from "I can see Russia from some places in Alaska so I MUST know how to deal with 'em!"? Or is the US public willing to let someone represent them on a world stage who didn't even know what the "Bush Doctrine" was..... even though it should be her BUSINESS to know it? Hell.... I don't even live in the same country and I knew what it was....... Does that mean I can get my US citizenship and run for VP? Provided, of course, that I buy a gun, lobby for destroying a national park, try to get someone fired through an abuse of authority, etc., etc..... I mean..... after all..... I already know more about US foreign policy than she does! LOL (the rest of the world must be watching and laughing...... but only at times that they are not crying at the fact that she may end up only 'one heartbeat away' from controlling the most dangerous armed force in the world.....)
Annie, get your gun 07:02am on 16 Sep 2008 Personally I find this sort of discussion fascinating for it's exposure of the truly ignorant. lol If it were not for the fact that handguns find their way up into my country I wouldn't care less whether or not people down south carried bazookas. Just leave them at home if you expect to travel to Canada. We have a relatively peaceful nation.... no handguns allowed to be carried by the general population, and that also goes for visitors. I especially loved it a few years ago when a probation officer from the States tried to bring his pistola into Victoria, had it taken away, and then whined because 'we' didn't have the right to take it away because he had a permit.... lol Not in Canada he didn't..... It was probably a good thing it WAS taken away though..... He had it hidden in a duffel bag that was being carried by his pre-teen child..... Shows some pretty good responsible gun handling by a 'trained' professional, eh? lol Anyways, you folks have fun putting holes into each other and pretending it's alright because it's your 'right to bear arms'...... By the way.... I'm kinda curious as to which "regulated militia' the ladies in the article belonged to? After all, if they DON'T belong to one then are they not breaking the law by carrying said firearms? lol Twist it however you want..... Oh, one last thing...... We actually DO have guns up here and know very well how to use them...... they just happen to be rifles used for hunting...... Not hand guns or assault rifles meant for killing humans..... ;)
Has Gordon Brown endorsed Obama? 03:12am on 14 Sep 2008 In regards to a post made by MarcusAureliusII concerning the 'fact' that NATO forces are not pulling their own weight in Afghanistan. I have to say that you sir, are seriously uninformed. There are 36 member states of NATO currently in Afghanistan with Canada fielding over 2,500 military personal who have been involved in some of the worst fighting seen in that country to date. Considering the fact that Canada is less than a tenth the size of the US in terms of population I would think that would be 'pulling ones own weight'. As far as 'The War in Iraq' goes, if for no other reason I'm quite proud of the fact that our Prime Minister of the day, Jean Chretien, said "NO" to our involvement in that country. I found that the 'proof' provided to the UN by poor Colin Powel (which to anyone with a modicum of intelligence would have laughed at) of a grainy photo of what looked like a goat shed in the middle of the desert to be particularily insulting. Even Colin Powell himself seemed to be ashamed of having to present that evidence. Fact of the matter is "There were no Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq". I for one am a little sick of hearing about what a great country the US is and how they 'saved the world' time and time again. Hell.... the US was late in getting involved in WWII, even though we all knew that Hitler did have weapons of mass destruction. You DID NOT break the 'Enigma Code' (despite what Hollywood says it was the British, no the Americans), and for the last number of decades you HAVE NOT helped other countries with their efforts for freedom UNLESS it suited your political needs of the day. So tell me..... Just how many dictators were installed by the US machine over the years because they were US friendly? One I can think of is the one that you targeted in Iraq.... So congratulations..... You've had to deal with what you created in the first place.
