Rock: Crumbling less 11:05am on 04 Aug 2009 Here we are again, with Robert Peston reporting on Northern Rock. A lot less comments than the halcyon days, but still...

What is there left to say. The brand is finished, the splitting into Bank & Asset will leave one "good" bank and one "bad", the latter carrying the government loans (or as I prefer to call them, our money and that of our children) and we'll see further job losses in the region becasue of it.

If the government are so worried they've had to ask RP to deviate from reality and write a party political piece about "inprovements" in NR rather than detailing the shocking >£700m loss, well, then that says it all.

The banks who resisted Government involvement have made profits at the expense of those who took the citizen's coin. Rightly so.

Election, privatitization, savage swingeing workforce cuts and equity sales lie in the Rock's future... Terrible shame.

I hope Adam Applegarth is happy now.
G20: Road to nowhere 09:32am on 02 Apr 2009 Wile I certainly don't condone the vandalism of RBS yesterday, for the first time in such a situation I understand it... That is a worrying turn of events!

Normally these type of protest are so far removed from "normal" life, that we disregard the perpetrators as "loonies" - In this case, I feel as robbed by the weasel bankers and as aggrieved that the government seems incapable or unwilling to take them to task (I know Obama's "super tax" when applied to the super rich is just the equivalent of the tax we everyday folk pay, but still, at least he did something!).

Gordon Brown probably hasn't even noticed the disruption on the streets, while he's busy "saving the world", but he needs to be aware his ordinary electorate are starting to see things a whole lot differently - I don't just mean greedy MP sleaze either, but that certainly hasn't helped! What exactly do these people spend their salaries on, if everything goes on expenses? When I travel to work I spend some of my salary - Isn't that how it works?

Anyway, off topic - I don't condone the destruction of property during G20, but...

Sky will let you watch a purchased film for 24 hours... Shocking waste!

Unsustainable public sector staffing isn't the way to build a successful economy, I agree! The huge reduction you talk of will come following the next election, with traditional Tory savagery!

The argument that people need to be employed in the private sector is a strong one, with a minimum of public sector support.

Why do we need to employ £50k "Knowledge Managers" on the NHS? We've created "busy work" to keep the employment figures low, when realistically £5k benefits paid for by the state would be cheaper right now than £50k "Informatics Analysts'" wages...

In some areas of the North and Scotland, the level of state employment is approaching Communist Russia!

I'm not a Conservative (although I sound like one on this post), but I just think we've gone too far! Labour aren't used to being in power this long, and have overcompensated!
Time to hug a banker? 12:44pm on 17 Mar 2009 If the argument for bonuses "it retains the best staff" is true - And, as we're being led to believe, these huge salaries and bonuses are a thing of the past, then surely it won't be a case of hugging an existing banker, as they'll have walked?

We need to focus on the next generation of bankers (those middle managers still working their way up) and get them thinking straight.

Those still clinging on are tainted, won't do the same work for less, so will be gone soon enough! Good riddance!

He should really stop doing things Blair did better, so the comparisons can stop.

If anything, our banks need more capital constraints, surely, to make sure they keep higher reserves?
