The Argentine team (with many other teams) of 2002 failed for reasons Tim eluded to many times. Read back and understand. The Man adventure has been well documented in this blog.

Copa Libertadores deserves golden final 3:22pm on 06 Jul 2009 Another player I will be keen to see in the final is little Gata Fernandez. He's no kid anymore but neither is he old but somehow has managed to play for River, Racing Club, San Lorenzo and now Estudiantes in between spells with Moterrey. He has flair and hopefully helps Veron with creating chances.

#13 - defintely agree also. At Man Utd there seems to be lack of integration skills for Anderson and historically other similar players (Veron the main one).

The focus on winning ugly has hurt Anderson's game as well as Tevez who feels he must make an impact each time he plays and therefore over does it or shows too much hard work. For Corinthians in 2005, he looked a much calmer ball player and deadly in the box but at United his game is just not suited with Berbatov and Rooney.

With Cambiasso in the sqaud and able to do this role it was a crying shame he or Veron never played in La Paz.

Anyway, before Tim gets bored of this subject back to Pelligrini. Another good south American he made a top player was Forlan- and look at him go now, what a striker!

Without dragging Riquelme into this again excessively, I was wondering where Pellegrini would be in his European career had he not signed JR. He made them the envy of Europe in those few years as they played better (easy on the eye and effective) football than Barcelona.

Since JRs departure, the magic has not been the same and they suffer from lack of ball possession as highlighted by their recent defeat at the Vicente Calderon where they were pinned back completely. On that showing, I would expect Arsenal to be too strong for Villareal.

Can the Hand of God make a good fist of management? 5:07pm on 23 Mar 2009 I was a bit suprised that this article did not refer to the Riquelme retirment and Maradoneas role in this.

I am a Messi fan also, but what JR brings to the whole team in respect of cohesion was something we should not overlook. His skills are fairly unique whilst Messi is amazing, surely the role of a good coach is to accomodate all the best players and not marginalise such a crucial player.

Its a sad day if we never see Roman in the albicileste shirt. You just have to look at the reaction of the Bombanera last week to see who is the greater icon for Boca fans.

Hope Roman returns or Argentina wins/performs admirably in 2010 as otherwise Maradone will really have much answering to do
