Prosecutions for waterboarding? 10:14pm on 15 Jan 2009 The article you referred to is, indeed, interesting. What historians take from his presidency is all too difficult to predict; however, there are far too many things washed over or completely ignored by the article:

Firstly, the logic for invading Iraq may have been justified, but the perpetuation of the myth that the military's continued intervention in Iraq is protecting Americans at home from terrorist attack is something that he should be held accountable for.

The Patriot Act indeed helped fight terrorism; however, Bush took things even further with illegal wire-tappings. I suspect that historians will have a poor view of his destruction of the ideal of personal liberty.

The allegation that torture is OK because it was only done to a few also goes beyond my beliefs in the abhorrence of such practices.

Bush also rode roughshod over the constitution by letting Cheney greatly surpass the stated powers of the Vice Presidency.

As for the economy, the fact that disastrous policies were implemented by your predecessor does not mean you can wash your hands clean of the fiasco when you have had eight years and countless warnings to reverse it. And doubling the nation's debt during a time of plenty will cost Americans for many, many decades to come.

Bad losers and bad finishers 10:53pm on 29 Oct 2008 I accept this completely, Justin, but what I haven't heard your opinion on is the aspect of negativity.

Obama is going for the high ground; McCain, most definitely for the low. Should Obama sink to McCain's level, or is he doing the right thing?
Health problems 10:48pm on 22 Oct 2008 Moving to the US from Britain a few years ago, it was what struck me most. And even with insurance, being ill and requiring doctor visits and certain drugs can add up (so far $5k this year).

But McCain in his anti-"spread the wealth" message neglects that it costs $900 per family per year to cover the minimal care that there is for the non-insured. It is in everyone's interest in this country to make healthcare affordable.
'A wonderful man' 03:35am on 22 Oct 2008 Since winning the nomination, McCain has felt the need to go more and more to the right to serve his "base".

Part of me wonders how he would be doing now if he had stuck to middle-of-the-road policies and chosen Lieberman. One thing I do believe is that Powell would be supporting him - and I'm sure that McCain knows this as well.

Oh, and one more thing, Justin. You said weeks ago that the Palin bubble wouldn't make it to the election. With polls now saying that she is his biggest liability, I have to say how right you were. (Oh, and could I have some of her $150k clothing budget, please?)

And it will set the standard for future years that the amount of negative campaigning is all that matters to win the election.
