Not one but two major rows 2:17pm on 02 Nov 2009 This whole story is really about the Government completely losing control of the news agenda. We have a Government in its death throws, it has lost control of the news agenda, the Civil Service and its advisors. It is a clapped out Government, bereft of talent and ideas - we should have had a General Election months ago!

Bring on the election now, so we can get a new Government with a fresh mandate to start addressing the serious issues affecting the country - not least, the massive and unsustainable fiscal deficit created by Brown.
'Positive action', not 'positive discrimination' 1:15pm on 20 Oct 2009 Come on Cameron, I expect better of you than this nonsense. It is Labour which is supposed to engage in social engineering of this sort - the Tories are supposed to select candidates purely on merit.

Don't forget, we are the only party to have so far produced a female Prime Minister - because she was the best of the best, not because she was a woman!
Rising slowly 1:01pm on 14 Oct 2009 This is to the moderator. I find it extremely sinister that you will not allow reference to the section in the UK Government's own statistical analysis which looks at employment levels for UK Citizens as compared with non-UK Citizens. What on earth is the problem with referring to this paragraph?
Rising slowly 12:28pm on 14 Oct 2009 In the statistics, there is a section on numbers in work who were born in the UK and numbers in work who were not. For their own reasons, the moderators won't allow me to quote the relevant passage - so trawl through and read it for yourselves:

Has he got a Legg to stand on? 2:06pm on 13 Oct 2009 Ref 231 and IR35 - a stupid piece of tax legislation brought in by one Gordon Brown and easily avoided. The proper answer? IR35 was introduced because by maximising dividends and minimising salary, National Insurance can be perfectly legally avoided. NI can be avoided in this way, because it is only levied on "earned income" and "unearned income" (e.g. dividends) are exempt. The correct solution is to scrap National Insurance altogether - it is income tax by another name and a con.. Lump NI in with income tax and you will have a fairer system - trouble for politicians is that you would also have a more transparent system and people would see exactly how much income tax they are truly paying!
Has he got a Legg to stand on? 12:53pm on 13 Oct 2009 The problem Nick is that the expenses issue is going to dog this lame duck Prime Minister and his lame duck Government right up until the General Election. It is clear that Labour has run out of ideas, has run out of money and has run out of luck. We, the people, need to have our say.
