soz to hear about the whole no contract thing.

I dont mean this in a rude way but does your wife (partner?) work? I know when you get into the premier league you get the professional WAGs but i was just wandering what it was like in the lower leagues?

Yeh it is good that the kids get that one last chnce to impress BUT surely if the numbers of players attending the exit trials is incresing then surely the quality of coaching that the kids are getting at the academy or centre of excellence must not be up to scratch.

How can they have a kid for two years who they obviously thought had something they could work with and then not make them good enough for a team a couple of leagues lower.....

Skipper left kicking his heels 4:08pm on 28 Jan 2009 i totally understand his comment baout not finding it as easy to celebrate...when you give 90 mins of high intensity effort and play through the tense pressurised situations that occur in a game it feels so much more rewrding when you come through it then when you sit on the bench nad watch your team mates in that situation knowing that you cn have no influence. yes you cna cheer and dispute desicions but that is not where the thrill comes from for footballers, that comes from the battle on the pitch and is what people love to do.

Yes he can support his team mates and be commited but if i was estatic every week by just sitting on the bench then i would think there was somthng wrong and i think it shows more proffesionalism to want to play.

fair enough there is a line that can be crossed when this frustration becomes disruptive but if its just not being able to celebrate a victory as they would if they were playing then whats wrong with that!!
The dangers of the transfer window 4:03pm on 26 Jan 2009 IF we didnt have the transfer window then the constant specualtion that is high during the window would be common throughout the whole of the season and it would be much easier for certain clubs to unsettle playaers they wanted to sign and it also means that contracts which are signed will be worth something for at leats an extra six months rather then the player signing an extension and then leaving a month later!
Ince forced out by fear factor 2:35pm on 16 Dec 2008 i think paul ince is a good manager, he proved it at mk dons and macclesfield. however i think he would of beefited by going to a club in the championship with potential and taking them up. if he had done this he would have had a lot less pressure on his shoulders in the first year in PL.

By appointing him in june because he is seen as a good manager and then sackig him now is not the way forward for a club, You appoint a manager becuase you agree with their philosiphy and have faith in them to get you the results you want , either in the short term or long term. not sure how long his contract was but i guess at 3 years, that means his first season should have been seen as a possible tight season and then in the second season the expectation should be too push on.

Unfortuntely tho the PL has become a ruthless environment where only the teams at the top 4 have managers that are relatively safe (maaybe not scolari) and they haave been there for a number of years with decent money to spend to make their team play the way they want them to.....cant be expected to achieve similar results if they not given time or money

I said it when he went to mk dons though...paul ince to be the next english manager after fabio capello and i still think he could be!! watch this space, i expect him to come back as a fighter!

The pressures of youth football 9:28pm on 27 Oct 2008 I think this is great blog and is an area that i have massive interest in.

I believe that kids should spend time working with a ball and like someone mentioned the drills where kids are stood in a line waiting their turn is a completely stupid drill, if players have to wait 4 minutes to strike the ball once then they might only get aac ouple of goes before the coach has to move on.

what they need is to spend time practicing skills and by skills i dont mean tricks (passing is a skill as is moves to beat players) so that when it comes to certain situations that they are able to reproduce the required move without even having to think about it. The top players play on instinct. So if kids just stand in a queue then they are not gaining benefits.

I used to go training at my local club which was an hour n half a week from about the age of seven. i then played for my first 11 a side game at the agae of about 10 when a mate asked me if i wanted to come training with him. at this age i began training twice a week and playing once a week and i feel that by the time i was 14 15 i had come close to catching up with the level of the other players who had been playing for the team since they were 7.

To me this shows that players need to train and that matches are not important at all and i am glad that u8 leagues have been scrapped (even tho i kno a few clubs still play unoficial leagues) and i think kids should play five a side at u9, then seven a side at u10 thenwhen they get to secondary school 11 a side.

Beckham gambling in Milan 11:28am on 23 Oct 2008 I WOULD Much rather have a plyaer of the experience and integrity of becks in my squad to call upon to come on in a crucial game for the last ten minutes then a player like jermaine jenas who is in nearly every squd but v rarely gets match time, surely that is wrong rtaher then having someeone who will ctually b considered to effect the game, either by getting in crosses or holding back a bit deeper and spreading the play!
Ashley's short-term gamble 4:47pm on 26 Sep 2008 The way i see it is no one will want ruin thre reputation by going to a club in as much dissaray as newcastle on a short term contract as many of the managers work best with stability (curbishley at chrlton). They were never going to get these people in which can be seen by venebles turning it down so for them to get kinnear may seem strange but he has experience and he is totqally understanding of the situation, he isnt going there to be a hero for the geordies, he is going there to work to the best of his ability nd do his job!!

If the newcastle fas hadnt gone on strie and forced ashley to publicly state his intention to sell the club he might of been able to get someone of more quality in for a more settled amount of time to help steady the ship. but NO the geordies protested and now no maanager will move up there cos they kno they could be looking for work as soon as its sold aas the first thing the new owners will do is to try get all the newcastle fans on their side by reappointing keegan and maybe even shearer!!

But then what happens next yr wen newcastle dnt win trophies under keegan, will they spend the next 4 years supporting him whilst shifting the blame solely at the door of wise and ashley or will they revolt against the next owners tht dont bring them success!!!??
