'Riots on the streets' 1:04pm on 29 Jun 2009 Yes Cameron is right. The PM is incapable of telling the truth and can never admit to being wrong. Everyone, except him, can see that cuts are essential to avoid the country going bankrupt. More and more people now understand that the huge state pension crisis, kick started by Gordon Brown in 1997 when he attempted to destroy one of the best private pension schemes in the world, is unsustainable and no one can now expect to receive a final salary linked pension unless they are prepared to pay for it themselves.
Middle England has been very quiet so far but I for one have had enough and am sick and tired of this lying deceitful government that thinks the solution to everything is to throw vast quantities of money at it. There will be a day of reckoning and the debt will have to be repaid. Bring on the General Election now or face the very real prospect of riots and worse, remember the French Revolution.

You imply that Speaker Martin was a good, fair, balanced and unbiased speaker. Did you ever watch PMQ's, did you ever hear the Speaker ask the PM to answer a question put to him? Presumably you were happy that the Speaker tried everything possible to stop the publication of MP's expenses running up a huge legal bill in the process, which the tax payer paid.
I wish I could charge up taxis for my wife to go shopping and take her on numerous business trips abroad to exotic locations for so called meetings, all at our expense. I wish I could retire on such a massive gold plated pension that we have no choice but to pay for.
But I don't and I resent the fact that Nu Labour broke with tradition and appointed one of 'their own' instead of electing an opposition MP. The thought that yet another labour MP could become Speaker today would just prove how out of touch Chairman Brown and Co are with the public. Martin had to go and the only possible alternative is Ann Widdicombe who will stand down at the GE, by which time she may well have sorted out the sordid mess called the House of Commons.
An equality of shame? 2:18pm on 22 May 2009 One problem with this whole sorry episode is that it assumes that all those critics of MP's expenses have themselves never misclaimed expenses or 'fiddled' their tax return. What about those of us who pay cash, to avoid VAT or tax, for odd jobs around the house and garden? Are we seriously saying that we have never taken advantage of expenses or paid for services 'under the counter'?

Whilst claiming for non existant mortgages etc is fraud and must be dealt with, if you were offered expenses for a second property, no questions asked, would everyone say no straight away or perhaps accept at least some of what was legally on offer?

Now is a wonderful chance to clear the scam and tighten up the regulations but let's not be total hypocrites.
Speaker's anger 1:52pm on 12 May 2009 The Speaker is so biased it is not true. Why was he ever elected when custom had it that the Speaker should not be chosen from the same party as the outgoing speaker?

Speaker Martin is the man most responsible for the expenses scandal as he could and indeed should have done something years ago when the problem first became obvious to the public. One has to ask why he tried so hard to stop the details of MP's expenses becoming public, when will full details of all he has claimed for be made public?

Strange that the Telegraph have not published either his expenses or those of the Home Secretary or are they waiting to do so at the end of their extraordinary exposures of our 'honorable (!) members'?
The sinister world of statistics 11:04am on 06 Mar 2009 We all know that immigration is under control, our borders are safe and we have 'British jobs for British people'. Trouble is statistics can prove almost anything and because our dear leader is always right no one should EVER doubt what the government says.

I wish you would also investigate the sale of gold by GB and find out what his advisers actually told him. I suspect he ignored their advice too.
Serious questions to answer 7:44pm on 03 Dec 2008 Why on earth did you have to add that last sentence? You just can't resist it. This matter is about the basic freedom of speech which has an extraordiny amount of support from all parties.

As far as I am aware, though I am sure I'll be told otherwise, it is NOT the job of the leader of the Opposition to answer hypothetical questions.

Just about every MP from all the main parties who spoke during the Speaker's address were in agreement on the main point that the police and indeed the authorities at the commons were in the wrong. The fact that it has now emerged that there wasn't even a search warrant, defies belief, we are talking about the House of Commons, not Alice in Wonderland.

The PM has completely lost the plot, the Speaker has no comprehension of history and the fact that it will be the government that will word the motion to be debated, quite frankly, stinks.

This no democratic solution and the quicker the Speaker is removed along with this useless government the better. I trust that the incoming government will insist on a non political BBC.

With all the goings on re Damian Green there is very little comment on the fact the Pound may be soon replaced by the Euro.

According to the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, the UK is 'closer than ever before, to joining the Euro'.

Why is it that the first we hear about this is from a 'leak' from the EU? Brown dare not make this announcement, yet he has done nothing to contradict it.
