I see the point, which I think would be valid if there were multiple micro-blogging sites and the BBC only pushed one, but currently really Twitter's the only such service, and certainly whilst it remains that (and free), I think it's right that the BBC should use Twitter as a tool for interaction, and therefore of course promote their Twitter feeds.

It's not because I don't know the message boards are there, it's because I couldn't be bothered for something trivial like a television programme. I have alternative things to do, and like as not it's the delectable Virgin's fault in any case...
In this case I wouldn't be looking on Twitter for information, I'd be posting my experience and moving on, my point was in support of what Mr. Reynolds said about using Twitter as a source of information for the BBC to monitor possible issues.

Incidentally, if we're all so wedded to the idea of the BBC remaining in house and not promoting commercial entities, I presume I can look forward to the campaign to stop out-sourcing production and an end to the promotion of commercial broadcasting firms in the credits of radio and television?
Microblogging the Editorial Policy Meeting 01:08am on 01 Jun 2009 Surely, with Twitter, blogs, message boards and such, interaction between the viewer and the BBC is now greater than ever? Whilst the (slightly) patrician part of me can't actually see the point sometimes, especially as so many of the people who choose to spend their time on the message boards seem hostile to the BBC's existence, that's surely a good thing.

I didn't start Twittering because of the BBC's content, but I've found it invaluable in reminding me when I'm about to miss something on Radio 4. I will also mention the outstanding GoodRadioClub, which was in its brief experiment (where's it gone??) a stimulating and interesting thing to be involved in, something that couldn't have been done on a message board or blog. That sort of programme specific engagement, especially coming with prior reading material as the Analysis GRC did was, to my mind, a model for audience interaction.

As a slight aside, if iPlayer was being slow, not working, buffering at ludicrous frequency... I wouldn't ever vaguely consider making a comment on the iplayer board, I'd complain to my wife, post a twitter message, one on facebook and go away until another time.
Boris and his bike... 2:19pm on 24 May 2009 I cycled to school in my uniform, normally without cycle clips as they ate my legs, much to grandparent's dismay...

Now I cycle to the pub, cafes, work... in whatever clothes I will wear when I get there. Never do I wear the bizaare day-glo lycra/helmet/easy-breathe/internal air-bag combo. I just get on the bike and cycle. How odd.
BBC moderation, the Law and "censorship" part 2: Contempt of Court 6:35pm on 09 Mar 2009 One question, how's it decided which stories are pre- or post- moderated? To my untrained eye it seems quite haphazard.
Broadband: Are you being served? 6:33pm on 09 Mar 2009 To my mind, this is the standard story of all deregulation; set up a myriad of regulators to issue reports, discussion documents and guidance, providing the semblance of control, then sit back and allow the companies to do what they like. The same principle applies to "consultation" when done by govt. or a council.

Solution, find the best of a bad lot, if you have a problem complain in the pub, and after a couple of pints of Adnams it'll be ok.
More on the Miners' Strike...25 years after it began. 6:30pm on 05 Mar 2009 At the time of the strike I was a second year at high school, and had huge arguments about it, even in rural Suffolk. Interestingly, the largest arguments where with the boy who would eventually become my brother-in-law and a policeman. Discussing it (more rationally than as 13 year olds) recently, we still stand on opposite sides; I still want radical unions (curse the NUT's spine), he still disagrees. How times (don't) change.
What have YOU done for your children's education? 5:10pm on 02 Mar 2009 Encouraged enquiring minds, had a house full of books, limited television, talked to them all the time, taken them places, let them run around lots, hugged them, taught them how to cook, learn what no means, laughed a lot, and guide homework when asked.

If my head chose to impose a dress code, I would a) argue vehemently against it as an imposition and irrelevant, b) seek to undermine it and push it to its absolute limits at every turn.

Regarding special needs teaching, my wife teaches special needs children, and needs to wear clothes that allow her to be mobile and also which don't allow the children opportunities to grab loose items. Hence, jeans, trainers, tracksuits are very practical items. Obviously that depends upon the nature of the special needs.

I disagree, the beard thing was perhaps glib, but equally, children are exactly that, children. As an adult, I can choose to do lots of things that I don't allow my own children to choose. Last night I chose to go to bed at 3am, having forced 3 reluctant children to bed at varying set times between 7.30 and 9. Their television/computer time is limited each day. My daughter has an arbitrary £20 limit on her phone, I have no limit. These are choices we make; when they're adults, they can make their own choices. That's not arrogant, that's part of growing up, the older you are the more freedoms you gain. A certain balance perhaps, as the freedom to just giggle and laugh slowly erodes under the weight of homework... after all, there has to be something good about that process. Some counterweight to the cynicism, the dead weight of politicians, money and so on?
