Berlusconi the fighter 2:28pm on 09 Oct 2009 It has been plain to see what a buffoon Berlusconi is for a long time now. Any country silly enough to have a leader whose priorities are 1)his media empire 2)chasing 17-year-old girls 3)the rest, deserves the sad position they find themselves in. No man should be above the law.

Europe's Afghan challenge 8:56pm on 05 Mar 2009 It's really amazing to me that they are still contemplating sending more troops to Afghanistan. For many months it's been clear to anyone with a couple of neurons to rub together that conventional warfare is a no-win plan. Keep in mind that anyone with more than a couple of brain cells knew from the outset that you don't win wars in Afghanistan.

It's not a question of military intervention it needs to be one of training and education, period.

I do get Sarkhozy' point though about the double standards being applied to bank nationalization however. Hungary in particular needed the promise not to link bank bailouts with restrictions on foreign lending activities as it's soooooo in debt to foreign banks, particularly Austrian:

Biden a necessary antidote 8:19pm on 24 Aug 2008 While I was disappointed with the choice, it's easy to see why they chose him. His attack dog style to fight the dirty fights, the perception of his experience on the foreign policy side and to pander to the religious vote. Whether or not Russia's aggression tipped the scale in favour of the choice, who knows? Something needs to be done to counter the McBush resurgence or we're gonna get 4 more years of the same. If we could just stop everything now and decide the president...
