I was also going to add that Ralph's comments sounded rather typically superior for a premiership supporter. Maybe Ralph was brought up in that area of London, in which case fair do's. He is supporting his 'local' team. No need to look down on those of us who also support our local sides as well mate. It is a well constructed piece of mis-information that the only good football happens at those large premiership venues. Our ground is much much smaller by comparison, but i would say the atmosphere is just as good with 5 thousand in there.

Like many of the responses above, I have been a blue square club supporter while my team played there for 5 seasons before regaining league status. The referees were appalling, the quality of the football not up to some people's tastes and a few of the grounds rather empty, yet there was something very comforting and inclusive about the process. I still watch my team for £15 a game, and that says it all to me. Football is a game with its roots deep in the working class structures of our nation and it needs to be priced accordingly.

Taekwondo needs to move with the times 6:31pm on 24 Aug 2008 I'd like to think that sportsmanship and the corinthian spirit were at the core of the decision to re-instate Stevenson. The pessimist in me however, tells me it might have had a tad more to do with several hundred million witnesses to the event and a potential mass protest!!!
Taekwondo needs to move with the times 4:52pm on 24 Aug 2008 In my opinion Taekwondo should be suspended from the Olympic games until it can get its house in order. Too much is being allowed to chance in the area of points scoring and until this is sorted there will always be doubts and controversy. I would like to see a rule that penalises any participant from gesturing to the judges every time they feel they have earned a point. In fact, the sport needs to take human judges out of the loop. For me though, the unsavioury sight of someone who has no self control assaulting a judge is something I would not wish to risk again, even if that means goodbye Taekwondo. You'd NEVER see that in Judo.
Dramatic athletics - but Britain beware 4:31pm on 24 Aug 2008 Why the fuss? It has been a good olympics with some memorable moments, but IMHO it would have been so regardless of our medal total. It will, I have no doubt, be a good olympics in 2012, regardless again of our medal total. To read some comments, I am left with the feeling that enjoyment and satisfaction in these games is linked on a sliding scale to this issue!
Like many people, sport isn't the 'be all and end all' of my life. There are many other factors invoved in that equation. I have watched the events unfold in China with interest and I am pleased for those athletes who have done well. It must be a great satisfaction to them, though I cannot pretend that I personally feel any different. Let's not misunderstand this, none of those participating have done so from some great patriotic need to glorify the country of their birth. They have done so because of personal motivations and the need to prove themselves to themselves. They haven't done so to make you or I feel any better than we did two weeks ago. That is how it should be.
I will look forward to the next games every bit as much as I looked forward to the one just ended. How many medals might we win? I really couldn't care. I'm certainly not going to follow Steve Cram down that alleyway of worry and concern he appears to be jogging. It won't prevent me from enjoying it at all.
