Well, you'd better start praying because that's how many voters get their information. I was a little skeptical of the "low information voter" until I started talking with friends and family members. We discussed conversations with people who seemed to get their talking points straight off television commercials. It's astonishing the lack of effort some people put into choosing a person for office. Obama wasn't my first choice, and I was not enthusiastic about Biden, but I cringe at the unmitigated disaster that is McCain/Palin.

I'm also offended at the idea that if you're "from the sticks", you talk like a yokel and have an uncontrollable eye tick, but that's just me. I'm one of those "hicks" that went and became citified and got herself a high-falutin' education and now thinks she's better than everyone else, or so the conventional wisdom goes.
Southern comfort 3:02pm on 26 Sep 2008 Oh, you're making my mouth water. I'm from Tennessee, but I now live in Massachusetts, and I can tell you that nothing beats a Southern Sunday Dinner. Fried chicken, collard greens, potato salad, sweet tea, cornbread (or biscuits)...it makes me homesick.

Try as I might, I have yet to find any decent sweet tea outside of the South (unless I make it myself). It's also hard to find the tender greens. I know what I'm going to ask my mom to make when I go home!

You're right about agreeing to disagree. Southerners have many issues--the legacy of slavery being one of them--but over food, you sit down, enjoy yourself, and relax. Whatever problems will still be there after you're done.

Three words: War In Iraq.

The justification for that quagmire was rushed through Congress so that no one would question why we were going there instead of using our resources in Afghanistan. Congress makes quick decisions too, to the detriment of our citizens.

Stop blaming Clinton for "blindsiding" or "side-swiping" Obama. It's counterproductive. The results of this election will not be his or Hillary's faults.
The American way to fail 3:17pm on 19 Sep 2008 Hurray! More debt for the American taxpayers who are already drowning in it as it is. With the government spending and creating money out of thin air, is it any wonder that our citizens are in such a pickle? The government bails out their friends and leaves the average American to make his or her own way.

Why am I working again? Surely it's not to better my station as all my money is going to taxes, gas, food, and rent. It's getting to the point where I feel the average American worker is only working to support the government and business, not themselves. How sad.

Their job isn't to teach common sense but to teach people how to make money quick. In that aspect, their job was done well.

I thought Clinton was allowed to ask for the nomination by acclamation. Sort of a further show of solidarity, because other states that could have put him over the top passed on the roll call. I could be wrong.

You're right about the limited choice, but I always hope for the best. Sometimes, it's all you have. I guess I wish we had more of a choice. Oh well.

I wish I could register as an Independent, but my dumb state doesn't have it as a party distinction and I want to be able to vote in the primaries because local politics are important.

Losing her seat would not prevent her from running for President. You don't have to be a sitting Senator to run for President. She wouldn't lose the seat until the November election, when she ostensibly would be in the running for President. Technically, during the 2012 election she'd still be a Senator.

If she chose to run for President, however, she most likely would not run for re-election to the Senate. Running dual campaigns would be seen as accepting failure (see Lieberman 2000) of the Presidential race. So, if she ran for President and lost, she would have neither the Presidency nor her Senate seat. Hope this helps!

I've seen first hand the bigotry, close-mindedness, and willfull ignorance of some of these people. I've seen them talk about tolerance on one hand while spewing venom about "sinners" on the other. I've seen them preach about abstinence while committing adultery and letting their children have abortions. I've seen good evangelicals too, who preach the word of God and live accordingly, but in my experience (and that's all anyone can discuss), they are few and far in-between.

I have a question for you--why do you care what another person does with their body? If abortion is murder, as you say, then isn't that a sin that has to be reckoned between that person and God? What does that have to do with your personal relationship with God and your life? How does it affect you? I've never understood why other people's business is important. The same is true for gay marriage. If gays and lesbians are allowed the right of marriage (for surely, what else can it be but the right of legal recognition and protection of a partnership), how does that affect heterosexual couples?

I'm not uninformed. I'm just no longer initiated. And yes, I know about zygotes, or I would have been a poor molecular biologist.

I've learned there's no reasoning or rationale for the way some people vote. It is what it is.

You're right--America gets the President that it deserves. Here's hoping that this year America has raised its standards. :)
