Google - is the love fading? 1:02pm on 05 Sep 2008 I would be in the group of people who would consider themselves to be a fan, but (isn't there always a but?) - I think they've reached or are about to reach a watershed.

They are on the cusp of crossing from cool to creepy, from edgy to establishment and from mega to monolith.

I like they're products, I like using them, but I'm starting to develop reservations about what they do with what I do with their software.

I think they need to do some harwork, and quickly, to convince more people that they are living up to the laudable aspiration of doing no evil.

In other sports, notably rugby and before it soccer, the concept of the "super sub" or the "impact sub" is well established why not golf?

While Clarke should be there on merit, wouldn't Monty be the ideal impact sub? the man to call on to win that vital point. While his tour form has deteriorated, it's difficult not to conceive him rising to such an occasion.

Secondly, this is a team event. Who do you think the Yanks would rather be facing on the first tee "prickly Poulter" or Big D with the cigar smoke curling from his lips or Monty on a charge.

I'd say the Yanks are looking at what Faldo has done and already thinking they've put the first point on the scoreboard.

It's all a load of tosh really in the Ryder Cup because the format is completely different.

Clarke should've got the nod. He's a better matchplayer, he's a better presence to have in the changing room and around the team, and he's a better playing partner.

One things for sure he'll be skippering the squad some day, Poulter or Casey won't.

So much for it being a European team, or even a British and Irish team, or even a Britsh team.

Shanaze's golden gamble ends in blood and bruises 10:18am on 22 Aug 2008 The Olympic motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius" (Faster, Higher, Stronger) and considering that the riders that are stronger, cycle faster and jump higher, it defintely qualifies as an olympic sport.

Much more so that the "sports" that rely on the subjective judgments of individuals to apply scores to determine winners.

In BMX (like in most proper sports) it's easy to spot the winner - they're the first ones across the line!

Anyway - as much as it pains me to write this from Dublin, I think her attitude is brilliant and the "why settle for silver?" quote should be seared into the mind of any athlete thinking of London in 2012.

Finally, on a more general note, the attitude of the cyclists seems to be incredibly focused - well done to them!
