Ashes preparation starts here 09:46am on 05 May 2009 I agree with magic_mira (post 3) with regards to Flintoff. He's certainly no number 6 anymore, so even having him in will not affect the WK issue too much. I would strongly consider dropping Flintoff entirely from the Test team (perhaps after the Ashes though, eh? ;-), and keep him in for LOIs.

KP makes headlines again 3:05pm on 05 Feb 2009 Firstly, good to see this is being moderated. Hopefully that will mean that the old diatribes against Aggers, sometimes on a personal level, will be kicked into touch (hit into the stands maybe). I'm all for constructive debate, so definitely good to see it back on the TMS blogsite.

On the subject of KP, I think the circumstances of this knock are completely different to the one against SA. There we were truly fighting to get back into the game, this time it's only the first innings, so (perhaps) not so much riding on it. Last time I agreed completely with Aggers, et al. It was a bad mistake. This time, not quite so much. Obviously, I would have preferred him to go on to 150 ;-) but you can't have everything.

Not many here have said it, but fair play to FF. He's done something I don't think I've heard (not being able to see it... ) him do before, which is really knuckle down and not throw away his wicket.

All in all, not a great start to the match, but I think it's still quite evenly balanced.
Ask Bearders #181 10:10am on 07 Nov 2008 Following the amusing figures of 8-215 for Krejza in the India -v- Australia test, I was wondering how many bowlers have gone for more than 200 in a test match innings, and whether any of those have managed to pick up more than 8 wickets for those runs.

Also, are there any other test matches where a bowler has gone for such a high percentage of the total runs (49% for Krejza), where the run total is over 300.

With respect, there are a fair number of factors that the umpires have to take into account. Not least the state of the ground itself. An extra 30 mins work (following a lot of rain) for the groundstaff to work on removing excess water makes sense. It's in no-one's interest for injuries to be caused to players, due to slipping. Also, these players are professional sportsmen, but they do need some warning before getting out there. Especially the batsmen! Also, you need to make sure the weather has passed.

TMS did make mention of the various things that needed doing just before the England innings (rolling the pitch for example), along with the rest of the preparations necessary following bad weather, so I wouldn't say they ignored the timing issue completely.

Lastly, you can hardly say the umpires showed "ridiculous contempt", considering the state of the light at the end. They want a finished game as much as the rest of us (possibly excluding the SA players/supporters at the end ;-).

I believe she grabbed his arm, trying to pull him away from the press, he said "can you take your hands off" or something to that effect. She did it again. Like I said, what he did *was* wrong, but the splashing with water isn't the whole story.

miclxx. Strictly speaking, I suppose, yes. But I don't think it was her fault. Was she trained on how to deal with the situation? I think not. Oh, btw, if I'm imagining that he could have apologised, surely you are imagining that he hasn't...?
