Benitez faces biggest test 1:53pm on 21 Oct 2009 I have to put my two-pennyworth in. I wasn't going to, but then I read the "Any team would struggle without Gerrard and Torres" line.

EVERY other team manages perfectly well without Gerrard and Torres. most are better run. some are even profitable, honest and play a better brand of football. and some are actually more successful than Liverpool - even with Gerrard and Torres!

Raffa is not, and never has been, ALL THAT. he's never had more than 3 performing stars in the entire squad, and he's spent money enough to bankrupt the whole club several times over.

Raffa is a big red beachball, who's scored more own-goals than anyone else at Liverpool. but if he spends enough in the Jan transfer window, he might still walk away with the Europa Cup ...

for anyone in any other country, other than the two that are actually playing the match ... it doesn't matter how YOU receive the match.

but the nations whose teams are playing should be able to see the match on their national television. this rule should be standard, for all nations.

if you're watching the England team from the States, or Ireland, or anywhere else, there's no reason for that nation to televise an England match.
Tangled in the Web 2:51pm on 12 Oct 2009 The F.A. tried to convince us that it wasn't their fault the game was not shown on terrestrial T.V.

but it was their fault that our national sport was put out for tender in the first place. it's beyond financial value, and if the F.A. want to try and fix it then they must represent us at European (UEFA) and word (FIFA) level, putting in place the preservation of all nations' football on terrestrial television.

this is what the F.A. must do if they want to represent, rather than make excuses to, the country. and this is what UEFA and FIFA need to champion, rather than their efforts to undermine the success of our league structures.

forcing all nations to make national football available to all viewers benefits everybody.

meanwhile, Rio, of all people, claiming on one hand to be down-to-earth and unspoiled by his riches and position, tried to convince people that it is ok to pay another £5-£12, on top of television licensing, extra subscriptions, and monthly broadband costs, in order to see his performance in Ukraine.

really? is it ok? who is he to say what is ok?

'OK' is where nations, by default, are able to watch their national teams play at home or away, qualifier or friendly, in their millions. not in their thousands.

(I believe that ITV has the rights to away friendlies. away qualifiers remain up for the highest bidder.)

so before the F.A. claim that they are 'free from blame' and they are busy 'representing the nation', they should first be actually representing the nation at the top tables reserved for such representatives, in our place, and trying to change things for the better. which they are blatantly not doing.

at ANY level.
Time for some Sol searching, Campbell 12:27pm on 25 Sep 2009 did anyone see the 'highlights' clip on the bbc website? Our Sol looks totally off the pace as the ball goes over, above and around him. there's no challenge made in any of Morecambe's many forays into the Notts box.

I think Notts have saved themselves some money there. maybe they can now go and buy themselves a decent defender or two. good luck to them, and it might turn out that Sol's done 'em a favour. although he could at least have waited until January so he could be replaced.

(but it's not as if he's ever left a club in the lurch before ... is it? er, no wait a minute ...)

that was the best blog yet. and you're absolutely right: England only have to show up and they'll glide to victory, game after game, irrespective of opponents, and they'll come 'ome wiv da cup!

sod being circumspect, we might as well enjoy it right away and continue to enjoy it for the entire 10 and a half months, and only be upset at the end if the worst happens, and Kim Milton Neilson referees the final.

it's only the team that needs to take it seriously and put the work in. the rest of us are hereby given full permission to let the party start straight away, and enjoy what we've got now we've finally got it.

I'm selling my house and going to Safifrika. soddit, enjoy the biggest party the world has ever known!

Did I just answer my own question? Did we actually play 90-plus minutes of football just so that Glen Johnson could learn what he should treat as a very very valuable lesson?

If he does learn it, we've solved the "What to do with our right-back position post-Neville" question ...
Robbo's England picks 2:21pm on 07 Sep 2009 Rooney had 3 shots on goal, Defoe had 2. Defoe scored and Rooney did not. Heskey had 1 shot vaguely in the direction of goal.
Why are we not discussing replacing Heskey with Carlton Cole in time for the world cup? There's goals in Coles - more than with Heskey.

I mean, I love Emile too, but why have an MPV number 9 who can't score goals ... when you can have the Volvo number 9 who can?

And why carry on with Rooney when he's having an off-day? Rooney's great when he's on a roll, but when a player isn't doing it, why continue with him when you don't have to? Who says he has to stay on the pitch?

Why not use the friendly to at least TRY Carlton Cole and Jermaine Defoe together? Hell man, it worked for Spurs at West Ham didn't it?

Doesn't this just mean more opinions to take into account?

Why not just sort out the 'technology'? Why is it even referred to as 'technology', given that all that's really needed is for the fella in black to wander over to the side and see what everyone at home can immediately see again and again, by re-winding and slow-motion replaying what just happened.

Hell, it could even be shown on the big screen so that everyone can see what the ref sees. No cause for complaint from either set of fans.

By the way, being someone who absolutely abhors cheating - which is what diving in football should be called - I've been rather impressed with Jermaine Defoe. All through pre-season and into the start of this season, he's steadfastly refused to go down under challenge, in the box or out, and in the process, has scored more goals than anybody else.

As a certain squeaky-voiced puppet would say:

Time to Focus on a new role 12:32pm on 19 Aug 2009 Congrats and welcome to blogville. I don't know who you support, but I'm sure I speak for many when I say, can you please present unbiased coverage during your time with us.

McNulty, Lawro, Hanson etc etc etc. All following one of the most boring teams in the prem, and every week it's just all about Liverpool: Who they played, how they played, who they're playing next and who thinks they're going to win. Who bloody cares? Only one set of fans from one team. They've got their representatives - can the rest of us be represented now too?

So please take a more rounded view and try to spread the love around a little bit. And good luck trying to please everyone. It's a good start so far ...
