The excuse (trotted out continously by the BBC)that the Labour vote is split because Ian Gibson was treated badly by Brown is utterly fantastic and farcical. The Labour vote is collapsing around the country because the Labour party constitutes the worst government in history.

Two MPs in breaches of the rules, unemployment soaring (1.92m year right more like 6m), Brown backing down in expenses row and indefensible bonus payments by the banks that Brown was supposed to be getting a grip of.

I agree. I think the granting of bonuses is indefensible and stupid in the current climate.

I merely wanted to give a small counterweight to the depth of ill feeling surrounding this issue.
The narrative of the new political era 12:17pm on 22 Jan 2009 I must first declare that several members of my family have worked for Northern Rock, and my sister does at the moment, so my opinion is far from biased.

Sensing the anger at the bonuses being paid out I would like to just add a counter weight if I may.

Whilst I agree that the bonuses send out the wrong message, it is clear from the BBC article that the average bonus of £2,000 is 10% of salary. That's a total annual pre-tax salary of £22,000. Are we really getting angry over this with all the waste and non-jobs in the public sector which have been raping the taxpayer for the last 10 years? If Vince Cable thinks this is a City-style bonus he must have miscounted the number of zeros.

I think I have just tried to defend the indefensible. I now know how the Labour apologists on this site feel.

This implies that there could be a great deal more politicians that disagree with McIdiot but who are hiding behind diplomatic niceties.

For starters if they were able to work they shouldn't be 'simply on benefit'. This is not what the welfare state was invented to do.

That point aside, it is clear that they don't have to aim to enter the world of work but only to 'agree' to aim towards this. Not only that but they don't even have to agree they are only 'expected' to agree.

This is like one of the soft teachers at my old school trying to placate some thug or some new age parents with an unruly brat. Utterly toothless.

Never mind though. Nick Robinson will call it tough and revolutionary attracting some floating voters for his paying masters whilst the policy has no effect whatsoever.

Why are you repeating this ridiculous 'do nothing' mantra invented by the Labour spin doctors? When did any government 'do nothing' in a recession? 'Doing nothing' is pure Labourspeak. The Conservative party has given many suggestions to combat this crisis but you and the rest of the BBC are choosing not to listen. That's not Cameron's fault. It does not behove you as a journalist to take sides like this and regurgitate this rubbish. Why can't the BBC write a balanced article showing both sides of the argument, setting out what each of the main parties would do?

Look guys Frau Merkel is right.

There's no point in doing something for the sake of doing something.

Borrowing more money and using discredited Keynesian stimuli is suicide. The pound will slump (if not collapse) inflation will rocket and we will be paying back our excess for much longer than we need to.

Gordo will destroy this country if we let him. The more I see him the more I am convinced that he is mentally ill. I'm being serious.
