Crucial duel 7:50pm on 30 Oct 2008 THE TRUTH ABOUT SCOTLAND

Sir,

The article "Salmond Slapped down by Norway Minister" in the Daily Mail on 29 October contained several incorrect and misleading statements attributed to Norway's Foreign Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre.

Firstly, there is no "growing anger in Norway" over comparisons made between Scotland and Norway during the debate in the United Kingdom against the backdrop of the current global financial crisis.

Secondly, no accusations have been made by Mr Støre against Mr Salmond, as alleged in the article. In the interview, the Foreign Minister merely pointed out factual similarities and differences between the challenges presently faced by Scotland and Norway. Inferring from this that Mr Støre is of the view that Mr Salmond has in any way lied or mislead the public, is simply incorrect.

In short, the Norwegian Foreign Minister did not intend to criticise either side in this debate, which is a domestic political discussion. What he strongly emphasised in the interview with the Daily Mail and which, sadly, was simply omitted from the article, was his sincere appreciation of the warm ongoing relationship between Scotland and Norway.

Based on your: "We are here to honestly serve the people." Someone should compose kind of a prayer all msps would have to recite at the beggining of the day's business.

I'm probably a recentnat compare to you but if I've learned something while canvassing is that the electorate's memory is elephantine.

I would not be at all surprised if after the next Holyrood elections the total opposition is reduced to below 60. I'm not including the Greens, nor Margo if she's still fit to re-apply.

Fifer through and through 04:48am on 20 Aug 2008 As today is a week later and Bryan has ignored the request for a different thread let me just say:

Trust Brown to plan the election as to better disturb the SNP National Convention starting the 16th and ending the 19th of October.

Helpfully we have activists enough to cover both events, if some delegates would wish they could be canvassing instead of listening and voting.

We manage to tally 1.153 different helpers in the Glasgow by-election, with a peak of 676 at the same time on a Saturday.

We canvassed the 60.000 potentials three times plus, while Labour barely managed to cover 20.000 plus once.

A lot of us used this inside information to make a bundle with the bookies, mine was £175 to a hundred.

Winning is sweet, making money in the process....shame the bookies have smarted this time, they do not expect only 365 more votes, but probably ten times more to justify odds of 1/4.

Motherwell next if Jack is not made to resign his sinecure in Malawi, Brown is very capable of much more than that to protect himself.
