The CL is pants. It is not a credible competition in any understandable form of the word. It is the shop window for a cartel of massive clubs who have conspired with UEFA over the past 20 years to rid themselves of the pesky smaller clubs who used to beat them on a regular basis (Nottm Forest, Malmo, etc etc). The enormous and immoral concentration of wealth in the G14 or whatever they style themselves as, aided and abetted by the media and football authorities has destroyed the European Cup as a spectacle - probably forever. On top of that, it is mainly boring in the extreme - the odd match notwithstanding - with the same teams playing each other year on year on year on year....Even more sickeningly, when any club dares to trespass on this boys' club - Man City, for example (even though their activities hardly warm the heart), the cartel threatens to change the rules and try and bar the pretenders from the never ending party with the same guests (and playing the same rubbish music).

How anyone can argue seriously that football is the best it has ever been obviously does not go out much, has a very short memory (after all, football was only invented in August 1992) or is seriously deluded (and a fan of one of the 'big four' - Tim Lovejoy anyone?) A sport without serious competition will surely die eventually - it may take a long time, but, like you say Robbo, it is eating itself. The day will come when the crowds turn away; the smaller clubs die (and even some of the medium or even bigger clubs) and Sky goes to play somewhere else. What then? Will Man Utd be the last remaining club with no one to play against?

For the record, we have been the best in the world and I loved beating the Irish then and I would love beating them tonight. Is that ok, or is it just arrogance?

You miss my point - I'm trying to do you all a favour. You appear to dislike the English so much that I thought you might enjoy things a little more if we aren't there.

Anyway, it matters not as the super-PC moderators have removed my message anyway. For those who missed it, I dared to question those who bash the English.

Ferguson turns up derby heat 3:58pm on 28 Nov 2008 The BBC's love for Ferguson knows no bounds, and for Manchester United as well. Strange really, as he has refused to speak to them for years. Anyone else would be slated for that, yet Ferguson is indulged and lauded by Man U supporting BBC journalists. Any other football bores would not have their spoutings reported in this way, so why do we have to read Ferguson's latest rubbish?

I didn't mention the word 'bias', but it has been pretty clear who Justin Webb and others have favoured in this election.

I would point you to the numerous blogs around the topic of 'how McCain can win' and links to right-wing websites.

The crowning glory for me was the case study of Wyoming, containing the narrative - 'Obama may think he's going to win the country, but he's not going to take Wyoming'!
Turnout turnaround? 1:33pm on 10 Nov 2008 To all those journalists at the BBC - its over and your guy lost. My advice is to get over it and stop having pot shots at the system who elected the other guy.
Beware a wounded Australia 1:26pm on 10 Nov 2008 I wish we could have had a sweepstake on how long it would take the first BBC journalist to say that Australia are still great and that England have no real chance.
