Dramatic athletics - but Britain beware 5:52pm on 24 Aug 2008 I love all the comments and truly hope that Coe, Cram Boris and anyone connected to 2012 read them and take note of all the sites commenting on the Games.

I hope they can see how much we care and how proud we are but that they also see we are desperate to keep all sports moving forward and that we do appreciate the hard work and sacrifice and not a willingness to compromise that for celebrity.

Please also take note of the number of people who CAN'T STAND that awful title Team GB it is
ghastly and not one commentator has been able to make it sound anything but GHASTLY
Goodnight Beijing 5:41pm on 24 Aug 2008 TO ALL OUR OLYMPIANS PAST AND PRESENT, I FOR ONE AM TRULY SORRY that you have been pushed aside. That Lord Coe, an honourable and worthy olympian himself should ever have agreed to that footballing celebrity Beckham getting such a high profile involvement in 2012 is a disgrace and does not bode well for the tone of our hosting the Games. He hasn't won anything, certainly not an Olympic medal and he doesn't even live in the United Kingdom let alone London.

His involvement and privilege at the Commonwealth Games was appalling and to say the least a snub and height of rudeness to all our competitors should have been a warning but NO . Shame on you 2012 organisors

Unless Beckham is going to cough up with some of the money GET HIM OUT and put in someone worthy and appropriate NOW PLEASE - RIGHT NOW PLEASE It could get worse and the Spice Girls (!) perform at the Opening. You have been warned.
Proud of Daley's display 11:45am on 24 Aug 2008 Although I thought OOOppps when Tom said he was pleased that the Chinese didn't win, I understood what he meant. They seem to have a stranglehold and could, to other divers become unbeatable. This result showed that they could be outdived (not just marked up).

The Danes, in their despair, have been reported as saying its not worth turning up against the British cyclist! In reality they will all go away and train to beat us or give up now.

I am sure with Leon in his career Tom will train to achieve his fullest potential as a young man and a diver and I wish him the very best.

Leon, even if I wasn't that interested in diving I would have engaged with it just on the quality of your passion, knowledge and presentation. Brilliant.
Dramatic athletics - but Britain beware 09:35am on 24 Aug 2008 This makes me sad but the UK is not brimming with natural talent. Maybe to achieve the goals set out for 2012 the powers that be have to be ruthless in selection. They need to get out TO ALL VENUES however small and pick the athletes with potential, not necessarily just from clubs but from school gyms, school sportsdays parks etc.and identify the strengths and then train the individuals, scientifically work out their potential and then develop, educate and CARE for them. We have relied for too long on parents doing this part, through their sacrifices and that of their familes we have produced some champions, but as Cram says no depth.

A lot a potential is out there but it is buried under school targets, financial limitations and apathy. Do it properly and youth will reward itself, our society and bring in some national pride and even MEDALS

Social stigmas have limited the youth and left it idle and up to mischief, we know sport works, look a snowboarding, bmx, boxing, martial arts and yes football. Look at what Redgrave achieved with his rowers - as seen recently in his 'Redgraves Raw Recruits.

If we get it right we wont only have results by 2012 but an attitude that will keep it going for many Olympics to come and a healthier youth!
Why gym doesn't fix it for volleyball 06:54am on 23 Aug 2008 Can't say it grabbed me that much but I slightly preferred the beach volleyball to the indoor, that I found full of angst.

Couldn't work out why the women get soooo much hotter than the men. The women wore bikinis and the men looked more like basketball players!

Is there really a dress code?

Idowu pipped on night of disappointments 08:07am on 22 Aug 2008 Idowu, Sayers, Sotherton, the mens relay. Cut them some slack, they are led to believe that they are gods of athletics. Their coaches must shut out the rest of their competition. Idowu even thinking anyone was 'bulletproof' let alone himself and his irratic achievements. Our last triple jumper who came close to perfection was Edwards who would never, not even when he had the medals round his neck would have talked like that.

Letting these athletes think for one moment that all they have to do is turn up is the cruelty of athletics overhyped status and perpetuated by the support around the individuals. I agree with everyone who said that these people should look at the cycling and swimming support for example and guidance. Just look at the mentality of their competitors.
Delivery day for talented Phillips 1:55pm on 21 Aug 2008 Why oh why does an athletic medal wipe away the other sports achievements.

Good job the cyclists, rowers, sailors swimmers
etc are capable of just getting on with it and without the limelight.

Of course, best wishes to Phillips but all medallist are equal. We are in danger of all sounding like Michael Johnson (nice though he is)

Christine did well but there is that dark cloud she doesn't want to talk about.
Drug cheats getting comeuppance 1:24pm on 21 Aug 2008 Wherever possible a ceremony reallocating the medals should be held. I think the cheat should handover their medal at the ceremony and leave as it is presented to the rightful winner.

I really dont think many athletes would risk this public condemnation of their cheating.
Liu Xiang out 3:03pm on 18 Aug 2008 I feel so sorry for this young athlete - David Beckham has made a very profitable career out of near misses and not actually achieving the medals.
