Could canoeing emulate British 'sitting down' success? 9:13pm on 23 Aug 2008 with a country with just 60 million inhabitants we do very well in world wide sport (maybe bested by australia)

we are concitently one of the top natins ion rugby and football, cricket, and we are not doing bad at the olympics either

then compare that to a nation like usa with 330 million yes they beat us in the olympics but in what other major weorld sports do they beat us (or anyone at)
or china at 1.3 billion india at 1 billion japan at 120 million germany at 80 million etc
Phelps 100m away from matching Spitz's magnificent seven 9:13pm on 15 Aug 2008 phelps is a great athlete

he may be able to compete in more events than say a high jumper but for each event he competes in their are people who will have trained specifically for that event all year to peak for that final.

whereas phelps has had to train 4 diffrent strokes and several distances and to mantain his peak performance for longer (sometimes with little recovery time between events or even before his finals)

swimming is not a sport- ok then most events at the olympics arent a sport such as archery athletics, sailing, cycling, judo, gymnastics etc

jesse owens was able to win in 4 unique events and carl lewis

heck decathletes and heptahletes (spelling very bad) can compete to a high level in a range of events
and there were track athletes that competed in several events
