Tonight's finale and more to come 12:08pm on 24 Oct 2009 I don't think the its entirely fair to critisize the winner because she is "posh", especially the majority of her votes must have come from the public! The ladies reaction surely proved what it meant to her.
Do agree about comment about carol though. would like to see her make a garden at greenacre.
A touch of the orient and autumn grasses 1:07pm on 03 Oct 2009 like the way the programme has calmed down. Much more relaxing. Probably not the place to ask but does anyone know how can I get rid of the fruit flies that are taking over my compost bin (apart from not putting fruit in!) Wish mine looked like greenacres compost!
Greenacre update 7:19pm on 26 Jul 2009 All this moaning about cost is to some extent irrelevant. Most of the expenditure in the hard landscaping sheds etc will be one offs as they would be in our gardens. Its a tv garden so it would look pretty rubbishy if there was just a field still or we had to wait 5 - 10 years for the palm to grow! Penylan sue i think you've got it spot on it looks like the kind of thing you would see at a college to see how its done. At least its not pretending to be a real garden, which was the charm of some the previous gardens but something Berryfields, as pretty as it was sometimes lacked. As for the rest of the series, schedules have been rubbish, but it does give the plants time to grow i guess and I have been impressed with the way the detail has gradually increased in the items without losing the basics approach to get new gardeners involved. Are any of us established gardeners going to stop gardening because the tv show is a bit basic at times? Unlikely. Would the world and environment be a better place if more people gardened definately!
'So I'll be letting go, goodbye and not hello' 3:51pm on 04 Apr 2009 Sorry westoner but i've got to disagree. Berryfields was a lovely garden but it took Alice's blogs to bring it alive. It sounds a fab place to work but the programme never really showed that side. Greenacres is more like my garden when i moved into my house (albeit much much bigger!) frankly barren but surely thats the joy of gardening creating something out of nothing. also by being a complete tv garden there is more honesty than at b'fields where it was nice to look at but at times no more relavent than visiting your local national trust garden, with its sense of scale. It just had that feeling of being in someone elses garden, where as Barleywood previously just felt warmer somehow. Maybe thats the fault of the programme makers? Or different presenting styles.As for the carpentry thats what most of us have to do, scratching about with cheap bits of wood & clearly cheap nails (thanks for making me feel better about bending so many nails and putting in screws at wierd angles) For anyone interested see the plans for Green acres in GW magazine. good luck with the garden Alice and enjoy many more happy days
No grounds for gardening 3:46pm on 24 Mar 2009 Boringly i want to agree with all said. what a great programme. Can I also say that since Monty left its been also been a pleasure seeing you getting to do some prper presenting and not being left to road test lawn mowers etc. Cant wait to see your plans for new garden, your family garden was one of my favourite parts of Berryfields. I even nicked the paint colour for my shed!
Bavarian Brushstrokes 11:40am on 05 Feb 2009 Dont know if you've got any with you but apart from the snow being great fun it doesn't half hide a multitude of sins! (And will make Alice's garden look bigger too presumably). Its rather nice having a garden that looks like a christmas card and a blank canvas. Mind you the dreaming makes me realise my garden is too small too! bother!
Post-Christmas pounds 8:37pm on 09 Jan 2009 I combatted putting on Christmas weight by putting on a few before the event (accidently admittedly). On the positive side i have no guilt about all the cheese i ate. Soon be spring and we can dig again. Happy new year!

Rambling around nowhere 7:31pm on 26 Nov 2008 Sorry to hear you've got the blues at the mo. There seems a terrible irony in a professional gardner who gardens all day feeling down when I fiddle around when not at work to improve my delicate karma! You could always spend the day in my classroom! (Although judging by how cold i got planting daff bulbs in pots for my friends wedding flowers the other day maybe I'll stick with the central heating for my day job)
