This nonsense should be accompanied by the following headline :

"British asked to pay reparations for slave trade of millions"

Climate Change is highly debatable, the European slave trade is unquestioned.

Still want to "save the world" ? Clean up the mess you made during 350 years of world oppression and colonialism.

In the meantime, spare us all the sanctimonious self-righteous hypocrisy. Get off the "I'm the savior of the world" ego trip.

So let me get this straight... Webb, a journalist with no background in engineering, is taken to ONE place ONE time, and concludes the entire nation is falling apart ?

That's "Justin Webb's America". Propaganda. WAY out of synch with reality.

I would like to think intelligent people would see through it, but most won't in spite of their intelligence.

When people tell you what you want to hear, you believe it.

To draw a sports analogy - when a referee makes a bad call which goes in your favor, most folks don't complain.

Few folks complain about propaganda which goes in the direction they prefer.

And even the Rwandan nightmare has European colonial imperial fingerprints all over it.

Perhaps most are well aware of the Belgian history there.

Most are well aware of the devastation left throughout Africa after the period of European colonialism.

But I'm sure someone will post up telling us how it was actually a good thing.

If I may borrow a phrase ... "Hypocrisy much ?"

In all sincerity, may I recommend a book entitled "Team of Rivals". Among other things, it describes the reality of the pre-Civil War period, and the political difficulties which existed since before the Constitution.

Perhaps then some will have some empathy for the convulsions caused by the slavery WHICH THE USA CLEARLY, OBVIOUSLY, AND IRREFUTABLY INHERITED FROM THE BRITISH.

Did they feel any guilt ? It's clear they did.

The political reality in the 1780s (and beyond) was this : in order to form a SINGLE nation, compromise along the lines of the slavery issue was mandatory. there was clearly no way the Southern states would have ratified the Constitution if it forbade slavery.

Their strategy was to forbid slavery in as much of the new territory as possible. This resulted in the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 and the Missouri Compromise (among other things).

Their strategy did in fact pay off. But it was utterly gut-wrenching. It's really inappropriate and inaccurate to say "the only price America paid was the Civil War". There's far more to it than that.

Really... do check out "Team of Rivals". I think you'll find it very illuminating.

This is a very warped view of the death of 620,000 people.

There was a very high price to pay both before the Civil War and after.

In fact, the price is being paid to this day.

The reality is this : Britain has caused enormous problems throughout the world, yet screams about a US "empire" !

A fine job Britain has done cleaning up the mess you made worldwide !

Britain created slavery in the new world, then left the mess behind for the US to clean up, then blames the ORIGIN of it all on the US !

This is simply unreasonable. It has nothing to do with the facts in the case, and is simply defensive nationalistic, jingoistic PRIDE AND ARROGANCE... all the same things of which some accuse the US.

Not so. Here'sone little detail you have missed : Those 200 years you speak of were mostly before the Declaration of Independence.

The people you speak of subjects of the British Crown, acting under British law.

Time to admit it... there is only ONE REASON THERE WAS SLAVERY IN THE NEW WORLD, and 100% of the blame lies with Europeans, who introduced Slavery 150 years before the Declaration.

To blame that on Americans, more 150 years before there was a US government, is absurd.

Religion doesn't cause wars. People cause wars.

99% of the time, religion is no worse than an innocent bystander.

Interesting the double standard... interesting how only ONE side of the story completely RULES the "intellectual" discussion. "It's all because of religion."

So much for being "inclusive of all the voices" !

If there are multiple major causes to a complex issue such as the origins of WW1, some people can boil it all down to "10 words or less"...

"It's all because of religion."

Those people are not original thinkers. They are conformists, and take the easy way out. They rest in the comfort of their Echo Chamber, where everyone sounds alike.

Here are two things you'll hear from the voices of cowards and conformists :

The reason we were involved is because you COULDN'T handle affairs. You failed.

You're trying to change the subject. The reality is RELIGION DID NOT CAUSE THOSE WARS.

PEOPLE CAUSED THOSE WARS.

Which is true of ALL wars.

It is so sad... the truth is you try to blame everything on religion not because the facts support it...

And here we have the pivotal point.

As an adult, Marx was an atheist. Funneling into his idea set, we see about a century of atheist "Enlightenment" thought, which had gained much strength by Marx's time.

Most of Marx's associates were atheists, as were most of his followers . The Soviet Union was clearly State Sponsored Atheism. So was Mao's China.

Those two atheists states murdered more people in less time than anything in human history.

They were worse than Nazism.

The truth is - in Marxism, ATHEISM HAD IT'S CHANCE. And it was the worst thing in world history.

And yet "Enlightened" Europeans still blame religion for the problems of the world. In spite of their "Enlightened" secular states committing the worst genocides ever.

I gather a deep hatred of religion is part of your indoctrination EXCUSE ME I'm sorry "education".

One of the funniest things I've ever read was an New York Times article which began with "Europeans, weary of religious wars, ..."

The wars you SHOULD be weary of are WW1, WW2, and the Cold War which were NOT religious wars.

They had secular causes, and were waged by secular states.

Odd that 411 sees Marx as getting a bad rap, but Jesus deserves condemnation !
