A taste of home in Hong Kong 7:59pm on 18 Aug 2008 Stunned this article is not jam packed with horsey types complaining about lack of Olympian spirit shown by all teams other than 1 in protesting about John Whittaker taking part in the 2nd round of the Showjumping.

Can we know the one team who didnt complain please?

This is thrown into sharp relief by the actions of the Croats in donating a boat to the Dutch to enable them to take part in the sailing medal race - although one team did protest about that.

I always thought the equestrian world was better than that, it always seemed one of the few sports where a genuine "sporting" atitude still existed. I know the reasons why they protested, but it doesnt bear much scrutiny. Tim Stockdale said shame on them, quite right - name and shame please.
Britain's cycling success - is it cricket? 7:48pm on 18 Aug 2008 The Aussies trudged off disconsolately because they hadnt won gold and the Poms had caned them (for once). If the shoe had been on the other foot do you honestly believe there would have been any article written by any Aussie feeling embarassed about winning? Wake up and smell the coffee! We are the worlds best, it doesnt happen very often, so for gods sake make the most of - ring up an Aussie and ask them how they are doing in the cycling and the rowing! Wait until the end of the week on the sailing as they are doing pretty well there at the mo. Beware, block all calls next summer when we play them at cricket!

The points race was also pretty confusing for several 5 Live reporters. Thank god for Boardman on the radio and Porter and poor Sutton (an Aussie, trying his best to be
pleased that GB were doing so well in the velodrome!) on the TV. Good work guys, Thoroughly enjoy the informed enthusiasm you all bring.
When is a grouse fair game? 6:24pm on 13 Aug 2008 Watching the boxing today there seemed so many poor refereeing and judging decisions. If i was the Russian who got stopped by our Super heavy then I would not be best pleased this evening. So perhaps the decision not to appeal by the GB camp was a correct one. It is a fact in sport that referees are prone to make up for previous poor decisions by with another poor decision perhaps we were the beneficiaries this time

But it has always been the same. Every Olympics I sit and watch and wonder if I have been watching the same fight.

This problem goes much further afield - wherever there is a sport that is judged subjectively there is always room for controversy - gymnastics, dressage, judo tkd, diving in this olympics alone.

It is hardly any surprise to find emotions turning to anger for those who have invested years of effort and sacrifice only to find that after 8 minutes of effort (in the case of boxing), they have lost out through no fault of their own, any other reaction would in my view be close to saintly.

Cut them some slack.
