Space, youth and hope 3:26pm on 24 Jul 2009 Re #7 Svetlana - I just did a check of last weeks temps in Brighton on your south coast. The high temp did not break 66 degrees, and right now at 3:00pm in the afternoon the temp is 64F. You Brits consider that summer weather? Yeah right. I feel for Justin. You don't have what anyone in the USA would consider a real summer.
Material girls 5:10pm on 17 Oct 2008 I wonder how much money Bethenney's father paid for her apparent cosmetic surgery(nose job anyone). Both women have guts considering they aren't THAT good looking.

The women mentioned in the blog seem to me the epitomy of obnoxious New Yorkers and are why the residents of Manhattan are pretty much despised by the rest of the country. Go figure after reading what they have to say.

Good ol Christian fundamentalism and classic good ol southern US straight talk. Huh? Next time the good ol south gets hit with a hurricane or floods why don't you kindly send the money back to Uncle Sam. While you are at it, let's rip apart the TVA and other federal infrastructure projects that were created and helped lift Tennessee out of dire poverty.

The real issue is that millions of people like me in more liberal areas of the country, completely and fundamentally disagree with this philosophy of relying on handouts when you hit a really bad patch. It's why this country will end up breaking apart.

We probably don't belong in the same country. I, and many others like me up north, sometimes wonder how different a country we would be if we weren't stuck to the south and it's crazy religious and anti-government beliefs.

The philosophy or culture of "scoth-irish" (many white southerners) hatred and dis-trust of government does not jive with the majority of folks in blue states. Jon, you've been spending way too much time in the south. How bout the viewpoints of millions of people up north?
An unconventional Church 9:39pm on 05 Oct 2008 Religion, religion, religion. It seems so many of your blogs are about religion. I wish you would take a swing thru the Northeast of the country and talk to some folks who aren't religious at all.

I think it is up to 16% of the US population now that have NO religion. We are a growing population and have just as much compassion and care for our fellow man as religious folk, maybe more.

We of the un-religion do not believe in "end times" and care very much about everyday life here on earth, more so than some hoped for "hereafter" for which there is not one scintilla of proof that it exists.

After reading this blog and realizing I am sick and tired of yahoos from square states picking our Prez and VP, I think it is really time for the US to split up. I think it was a mistake that we (the north) won the Civil War. We don't belong in the same country. And even though the blog is about St. Louis folk, they are rednecks, pure and simple. It's time for New England and the Northeast of the USA to get out. You can keep your folksy idiots, I'll take the likes of FDR and kennedy any day!
Where are they going? 10:27pm on 30 Sep 2008 The comments to Justin's blog seem fixated on a perceived anti-Jewish bent. I think Justin was referring more to the larger group of gentile members that have taken off.

So you think that makes you more of an authority on some supposed slander against a religion? The blog was not anti-Semitic - Full Stop!

I agree competley and am a liberal citizen of northeast USA. Why is it that Mexicans feel it is their right to live and work in USA and Europeans, whose ancestors build this nation, can't get an immigration visa to save their life. If it were up to me immigration from Latin America would be blocked entirely. The USA needs a break from an unrelenting mass migration of this sort. Can any rational person tell me that Mexicans are returning to their ancestral homeland of Pennslyvania. Bull! Yet everywhere you go in my hometown you see Mexicans. I'm sick of it. If this were the reverse Mexico would declare war.

You are way off base. I live in the northeat of the USausa and do you really believe that Hispanics have been here since 1598 or such? No way. Illegal Mexicans are everywhere here and do not belong. They broke the law and should be deported. If Hispanics in New Mexico believe otherwise then break away from the USA and become part of Mexico. As an American living in Philadelphia I feel ever more foreign in my own country because of latin immigration. Why do we have to change for them. I am sick and tired of pressing 1 for English. The immigrants from Latin America should learn English or leave, end of story. Everywhere you look in my city, Philadelphia, there are illegals from Mexico. Why are they here? Is it their right to be here? NO! Follow the rules like everyone else. I'm sick and tired of the special priveleges given to Hispanics. If you're from Mexico this is not your country. Immigrate legallly and learn English.

To Old South: Large northern cities like Philadelphia are just as much the heart and soul of this nation as any small rural town are.

Did I miss something? I think it's pretty clear that Steve knew Stephanie is an Aussie.

I'm always impressed with Australia's Olympic performance. The country only has 20M people yet sent over 400 athletes. Australia is a great sporting country!
