Getting used to being a lady of leisure 10:00am on 15 Aug 2008 It's lovely to read your comments and share with you some of your emotion.

There are less and less sports (and probably competitors) for whom the Olympics are the pinnacle and for whom participation in the greatest sporting event in the world means everything.

Your pride in representing your country is obvious and you can retire in the knowledge that you have done us all proud.

I look forward to seeing you as a 'face' for 2012. Good Luck and 'thank you'
Food for thought 3:06pm on 12 Aug 2008 The Chinese are well aware of western diets (the big 'M' exists everywhere - a cause of great concern!) However, as others have suggested, we should not expect to have western food available everywhere we go.

I had my first ever taste of Olympic action at Tianjin and was gutted to have to throw my fruit loaf and 2 botles of water in a bin before entering the security areas. More to the point, there were a great many Chinese people who had arrived with families and large picnics which they were desperately trying not to waste by consuming everything possible with indecent haste!

If the rules are that you can take nothing consumable with you, it needs to be very clear before you arrive at the event!!
Empty seats strike bum note 1:09pm on 10 Aug 2008 Have just returned from Beijing - the day after the opening ceremony! We went to Tianjin (without tickets) assuming the ground wouldn't be full for the opening game in the Ladies Football. We weren't allowed within 400m of the stadium and eventually a young Chinese girl helped us out by asking someone who produced tickets for us with an £8 mark up on a £3 ticket! The stadium had 23 000 people in it - capacity 50 000! We witnessed many Chinese people being turned away, as we were. I guess they couldn't afford the mark up prices. Very sad.
Earlier, a guide for a cycling trip to the Great Wall had spare Athletic tickets which he had spent 2 days queuing for - just to sell! Many locals simply cannot afford to go to the games.
