What's the most impressive sport? 00:23am on 21 Aug 2008 After seeing the gymnastics gala, I would have to say tumbling. It's such an awesome spectacle.
Why China needs more Dog & Ducks 01:44am on 15 Aug 2008 Another thing to note is the work/leisure balance of the Chinese.

Most Chinese work incredibly long hours and one of the most common causes of complaint is overtime. This makes it difficult to successfully get a big group of people together for a match.

It's much easier to find just one other person to play badminton with on the street.
Why China needs more Dog & Ducks 01:16am on 15 Aug 2008 I think part of the problem is the is a lack of decent football pitches and suitable public spaces. In Britain, we can just go to the park with our friends to have a kick around.

I spent years in China and the only place to play football in the town where I was staying was a concrete basketball court. Hardly a suitable place to practice your sliding tackles. Big public parks are usually found in cities and are more like gardens. It seems that any empty spaces in towns and cities are seized upon as an opportunity to build and make money.
What do you think about Monkey? 6:24pm on 10 Aug 2008 Col_muso, I'm all for promoting different non-Western forms of music and I agree that Nessun Dorma was great, but the bit that spoils everything, which I really detest, is when it turns into a pub fruit-machine. It's unfortunate that this is the part which is played all the time when showing Olympic footage as I think the rest of it isn't too bad.

I think it's supposed to represent the era where we got introduced to Monkey here in Britain. It's trying too hard to bastardise Chinese music to make it cool, but it just doesn't work for me. They could have done a much better job of showcasing Chinese music.

There's nothing Chinese about the sound of the fruit machines and the result is like a cat on heat screeching all the way through what would otherwise be a decent track.
What do you think about Monkey? 00:57am on 10 Aug 2008 The music is annoying. REALLY annoying, especially as the clip is played too often. I have to turn the channel every time it comes on.

In terms of the characters, they were just ripped-off, cartoonised versions from the TV series Monkey, which was a Japanese interpretation of Journey to the West. This is just lazy and obviously shows little appreciation of the classic from any other viewpoint.
Which sports would you add to the Games? 6:05pm on 09 Aug 2008 I believe in sports anyone can have a go at, so how about indoor bowls or boules? You don't have to be young or rich. It gives everyone who isn't naturally athletic some form of Olympic hope.
Missing the opening ceremony is no big deal 11:10pm on 08 Aug 2008 I too found the commentary really annoying but for slightly different reasons to those mentioned above.

There was a lot of "Well we saw the rehearsals and this is what happens next and this is what you should look out for", from Huw. It spoilt the whole surprise and suspense of watching what was a really spectacular show.

It's like watching a film with someone telling you over your shoulder what happens next because they're soooo proud to have seen a preview and you haven't. It's not clever.

Brilliant show though, well done to all involved.
