Andy Murray - Scot or Brit? 2:15pm on 03 Jul 2009 For reasons long since forgotten the islands off the north east of continental Europe have been called the British Isles and as such those who lived thereon were known as British. However we all know that there are four distinct countries within the islands each with their own history and culture. We also know that the trend is towards greater national identity, largely because the other three countries have been swamped by the English and they now have the opportunity to reverse English dominance. To refer to Andy Murray as British is to dilute his real nationality. If it looks like a duck, swims and goes quack, it's probably a duck... If he was born in Scotland of Scottish parents and speaks with a Scottish accent, he's probably a Scot.

Roll on the General Election when those that royally deserve it will be consigned to the political midden. A sad end for the once great Labour Party.

It's unfair to talk about MPs in terms of pigs. Pigs are useful and intelligent animals. They don't fiddle their expenses, nor do they steal from the taxpayer.

You are clearly not aware of the reaction to the Sub-Prime Minister's witterings at the European Parliament led by Daniel Hannan's splendid and right on the money response. Why haven't you made any mention of it. Concerned about having your No 10 accreditation revoked or are you a dyed in the wool leftie?

Daniels 3 minute speech is all over the internet and not a mention from you. It's obvious where you and the BBC are coming from. You are developing into Brown's applalling government's propaganda organisation shame on you.

More bad news for Brown 1:33pm on 13 Jan 2009 Things are likely to get worse for Brown & Co.

Wittering on about getting the long term unemployed back into work and creating hundreds of thousands of 'new' jobs whilst telling us that there 500,000 job vacancies, enough to take many of the long term unemployed off benefits, to help get things back to normal is not cutting the mustard.

In the real world you get rich and your country gets rich by making things that the rest of the world wants and will pay for.

Since Britain can't do that any more, getting the UK out of recession by finding jobs that cost money, as opposed to jobs that really produce wealth, seems increasingly unlikely to meet the real objective.

Perhaps more questions should be directed to the government towards the creation of jobs within the wealth creation businesses as opposed those in the largely defunct 'services' sector.
In retreat 12:05pm on 02 Dec 2008 I just don't believe that Brown and Smith didn't approve this arrest in advance.

Brown stayed in his bunker and left Smith to repeat the 'nothing to do with me' mantra.

Now it will become a police problem which will be kicked into the long grass along with any number of other enquiries set up by Brown.

It's always the cover-ups that cause the damage, rarely the event itself.
Can the 'War on Terror' ever be won? 08:16am on 12 Sep 2008 The 'War on Terror', or more correctly the war on terrorists, is unwinnable. By their very nature people wishing to commit terrorist acts are usually very resourceful, strongly motivated and able to get around measure taken to stop them. These measures are historically based and tend not to be preventive. Huge military effort doesn't work, as we have seen in Afghanistan. The solution lies in the removal of the underlying reasons for people coming to the conclusion that the only way open to them to express themslves is to commit acts of terrorism.

So if the US acts to remove its dependence on oil from overseas and Europe follows that example, most of the reasons for terrorist acts will just go away.
