Even though I posted on the BBC's forum, I would not consider it a rational place to gauge the mood of a nation.

About the cycling; good luck! It should be a good time for Britain... but I'm not counting the medals just yet! A lot can go wrong and if the Chinese take it seriously, they might clean up, just like they have everywhere else.

Archery enters the eye of the storm 5:33pm on 10 Aug 2008 China looked in a different class to Britain and France; and South Korea were a class above China! The only close contest seemed to be for the bronze. One of the 'best' things about archery is that there's no argument and no judgement. France won the bronze because they were more accurate when it mattered - simple as that.

What was disconcerting - particularly during the final - was the whistles from the crowd. It was going on during both China and South Korea's attempts... though seemed slightly louder during South Korea's arrows. I hope this isn't a sign of the Chinese fans taking home advantage to an unwelcome level. I guess one of the tests of this will be when a Chinese tennis player is playing...
Weightlifting doubts appear early 4:59pm on 10 Aug 2008 We just have to trust the drug tests to find the cheats. Until that time, we shouldn't be too suspicious, otherwise there is no point in watching at all.

For example... if you watched Michael Johnson break the 200m world record by 1/3 of a second, you may have been suspicious. Knowing the man and his zero tolerance attitude to drugs, you realise that being suspicious is wrong.

Weightlifting at any level calls for unnatural ability; that doesn't imply that every good performance is a sign of cheating.
A postcard from Beijing - 10/08/08 4:55pm on 10 Aug 2008 Thanks for the report, Matt - it is sometimes nice to read some of the colourful stories surrounding the Games... though please tell the directors not to show them on BBC One for hours on end! If I see the British team 'hilariously' practicing golf shots or painting their toenails again, I may scream!

Why Tom Daley is the real deal 4:51pm on 10 Aug 2008 Good luck! It's a relief to read this article; with all the hype that surrounds Tom - particularly during the Opening Ceremony when his face appeared often - to read a more realistic opinion of how he and Blake might perform.

If they do end up in sixth, say, I hope the critics don't come out...
