Filming me, filming you 04:06am on 15 Aug 2008 The Chinese characters on the banner show that the protestors clearly knew that there is much more freedom now in Tibet than there was when the Dalai Lama ruled the region. The "protestors" seemed to be celebrating the improvement. I'm supprised that they were arrested by the police.

Not quite what we thought 02:29am on 14 Aug 2008 To be fair to the performing girl (Lin Miaoke), she actually didn't mime. She really sang, not knowing that her voice is replaced by another's on TV. And the other girl, Yang, she was never supposed to go to the stage. That's why she was actually happy that her voice was used.
Not quite what we thought 00:10am on 13 Aug 2008 For your information, the "footprint" fireworks were real. I mean, there were indeed footprint fireworks. It's just that what's shown on TV was not the real fireworks, as it was difficult to actually shoot the real firworks in real time from the air. So it was not entirely faking. The girl's singing was indeed miming. But I heard that in American superbowls etc, they do miming as well. Is that true?

Anyway, I was surprised that China disclosed these things voluntarily. What's the purpose?
Learning to slam dunk 01:10am on 11 Aug 2008 Sure individualism has emerged/surged in China in recent decades, but in many ways than one China still has more of a collective mind set than people in the West. I don't know about Britain, but in the US, for example, the media's focus is on individuals like Yao Ming and Phelps (NBC is almost exclusively on Yao Ming during the opening ceremoney when the Chinese delegation marched into the stadium). And the media here portraited the US-China bastetball game as a "historic" game, calling the Olympics as Yao Ming's olympics. Yao Ming is of course a big star in China too, but people in China paid more attention to how the opening ceremony looked, how many gold medals China can get as a whole, rather than how any individual fared in the game. The olympics is certainly not Yao Ming's olympics (don't take me wrong, I like him too). There will be so many medalists; at least in Olympics they mean more to China than a bastetball team.

The Xinjiang killings showed that China's heavy security measure in Beijing is probably necessary after all, and journalists can now take a break from making fun of it.

China's press restrictions, though, does not help in making the point across.
