But the problem with the UK economy over the past 3 years until Le Crunch was that gov spending was unsubstainable not inflation.

Look it is simple. Gordon Brown had a budget in 2001. He'd overspent by 2004. His solution was to spend more. 2008 the solution is to spend more.

Britain's economy has been in an unstainable position since 2004.

International investors will shun the attempts to borrow some much more.

When bank rates fall to 1% I suggest all UK depositors withdraw their funds from the banks as they will be safer and more useful in safe deposits.

Talking tax cuts 11:43am on 10 Nov 2008 I know, why not apply an extra tax on all those who voted labour and cuts for those that didn't.
Thus aligning obligations with responsibilities.

It seems the BBC and politicians ignore people / institutions that are the fundamental building block of successful banking system. Why is that ?
I would argue that the UK gov was dilatory in providing the reassurance necessary to prevent runs on banks. Hence the problems.
In the USA their gov let a bank collapse thus destroying confidence.
Perhaps depositors should take out liens on banks assets when they loan them money!!!
RBS to stay private? 11:16am on 14 Oct 2008 Market reaction just shows you what would have happened if government had guaranteed depositors money in the first place!!
Depositors interests are not being fully recognised by the "great" BBC. In the end they are the most important interest in a bank.
