Leave Only Footprints Not Ten Tips

Sorry not to get your request for 10 plastic free tips till too late.

Much stamping of feet and great disappointment at missing this opportunity to promote the joys of plastic rubbish boycotting (its good clean fun).

Not saying I could improve on the above tips. I couldn't, they are fantastic as are the blogs. However as they are American some of the advice is obviously only US of A appropriate.

So I would just like to add that I have sourced a number of local, plastic free products and services, useful for the UK based

I enjoyed reading your blog. You must be glad to get back to the world of crisps - how I miss them.

In the bathroom cabinet 11:09am on 27 Aug 2008 Reuseing bottles is best of all - Ecover do it for cleaning liquids - see their website for a list of shops that do refills. If Ecover can do it perhaps its time for others to rethink that service. NB I use Ecover washing up liquid for hand soap and shampoo when I run out of either - and you know what - its just as good. And (until now) no one realised that I was doing it.
In the bathroom cabinet 10:57am on 27 Aug 2008 Use soap flakes from dri pack- they come in a cardboard box - mix them up with water and essential oils and you have lovely shampoo that costs sweet FA and smells like it costs a whole lot more.
Soleful 8:17pm on 22 Aug 2008 Giving up plastic all at once is a task in itself - it takes time and shopping habits need to change. . Over the last year I have been boycotting plastic but my goal is not just to say no but to source plastic free alternatives. Going plastic free is not a hair shirt thing but a viable option. Or in some case not. In some cases plastic may well be the best packaging option but not to the excessive extent that we use it.
My reason for doing what I do is to decide, what I think needs to be plastic wrapped and what is just nasty rubbish creation. I have managed to find plastic free alternatives to many products, my bin is much emptier and when I read about the scary and revolting trash votrex I know that I am trying to do something about plastic pollution.
I'm starting to miss plastic... 7:54pm on 13 Aug 2008 Try cornstarch bags in your bin - Wilkinsons sell big bin and small bin size ot you can buy them on line. They will seep fluid if you leave them in for ages but they are good for reasonably dry waste.

Lining the bin with newspaper works pretty well.

Both of the above if you are paranoid

To avoid milk problems powdered milk can be bought in boxes and longlife UHT (yucky) milk can be bought in paper cartons.

My milk man can be erratic so I have ordered a couple of extra pints and frozen them - not in the glass bottles obviously - to cover shortfalls. I have also bought a yogurt maker to use up gluts.
