Looking forward to a new season 5:12pm on 17 Jul 2009 Coyle enjoyed success with St Johnstone? When? His side failed to get promoted to the SPL year after year. St Mirren, Gretna and Hamilton all beat Coyle's St Johnstone to the title. If success is not being promoted..

Funny weekend of media, Setanta look to modify the TV agreement for the SPL, followed by a radio interview with Gordon Strachan we he states that TV audiences should see big stadiums and packed crowds on good surfaces in the SPL followed by the 'Old Firm for England' line.

Hmm. Old Firm want more money, Setanta can't offer more leads to another 'the Old Firm must play in the premiership' story.

Funnily enough neither Glasgow team did that well in european competition this season. Y'know what's also strange:- 3 out of 4 sides still in the European Cup are English.

As it stands currently neither of the Old Firm sides are realistically geared up to compete with Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal. In time in a two tier EPL set-up, (I wonder where the Bolton chairman got that idea from? SPL 2 anybody?)with the higher domestic TV income, they might be competitive, but after how many seasons and how much would they stand to lose from near automatic champions league entry season on season.

The 'Old Firm to the premiership' won't happen, but both clubs are out to squeeze more money from 'staying' in Scotland. Watch out for a 'revised' SPL deal with setanta that panders to both clubs, watch out for Celtic and Rangers getting greater control of 'their' media rights to SPL games both within and outwith Scotland.

We've had the Old Firm rip up the idea of shared gates in scotland in the 70's, In the 90's the Old Firm create the SPL to get a bigger cut of the cake, In the 00's, the TV deals are tweaked and the Old firm demand 5% of the gate reciepts when their fans travel. How much is enough for them?

This is all despite both clubs having huge supports from all over scotland that buy whatever goods, products and DVDs that are released. Despite (it is reported) full house attendances at Ibrox and Parkhead in their every home game.

Truth is that they are money hungry and always will be. Hopefully this time the Old Firm are told to go away by the English and their demands for more money are resisted in Scotland.

As for Bevvygate? The bevvy wasn't the issue, the gestures were. In my view,the correct action was taken by club and country over the gestures, but the SFA must look hard at what created bevvygate.

How much of a bevvy were the players allowed? Did Burley honestly trust the players to have a few and off to bed? What is in the new code of conduct? Have the SFA banned bevvy after games for players? Will the other alleged bevvied players be named, shamed and disciplined?

Burley must have some blame attached for his part in the thing and the whole saga suggests that he's maybe not got the respect of the Scotland Squad as quite a few ripped the backside out of his 'have a few beers' at cameron house.

I look forward to reading the SFA's report over bevvygate.
Scots duo pay dearly for mistakes 7:55pm on 03 Apr 2009 they deserve all they get. bevvying is nothing new, but the gestures show a lack of any respect.

Surprised the club took action too, but fair enough.
Expect excitement over quality in Old Firm final 01:15am on 10 Mar 2009 I hope the hampden pitch isn't too bobbly for Celtic, as BBC's pundit Pat Nevin was so keen to point out that the surface of St Mirren Park was the cause of the 'shock' exit of Celtic.

Strangely enough when I read the newspapers on sunday and monday, the reports credited St Mirren on a superb team performance full of grit and determination with no mention of that bad bad bobbly pitch Mr Nevin saw.

So please makes sure the pitch is nice and flat to keep Mr Nevin happy.

and keep the seats clean, the saints are coming to hampden!
An Atlantic League would sink SPL 02:09am on 30 Dec 2008 Once again it's greed, sheer greed from the Old Firm.

'we're too big for scotland, but we want to keep a side in any league we leave'

The OF as Scotland's representatives in europe have failed, England doesn't want them in their lucrative money spinner of a league (where only four teams have a chance - shh!), so the 'atlantic league' is disturbed from it's mid 90's grave by the old firm grave robbers.

This 'news' (or is it reheated 'olds') on top of the early season money grab by the old firm for 5% of income for tickets for their away supports, again robbing the 'diddy' 10 SPL clubs of revenue.

Money keeping coming into the old firm, they keep on squandering it. season after season.

Time to put up or shut up by the Glasgow Teams.

If you are going, then go and let the rest of scottish football get on with it. But do not expect support for keeping 'a reserve team in scotland'.
SPL think-tank's food for thought 00:27am on 17 Dec 2008 Mibbe big Mixu shops in Iceland? Kerry Katona and the Nolan sister have lured him in.

Hope somebody at love street unnails Gus MacPherson from the floor, he's needed at Killy on saturday.

As for the think tank. I'm glad that the St Mirren manager can devote his full attention to his job and hopefully that helps in preparing to bring in players in January and for planning the flit to St Mirren Park.

One last thing, If Yogi Hughes and Watty Smith are up at the SFA beaks for abusing officials, why are they allowed on a SPL panel of the great and good?

UK Olympic team spells danger for Scotland 11:44pm on 27 Aug 2008 Snidey, that's patently untrue, it's got nothing to do with team selection in 2012, but as chick says in the article to do with FIFA and the prospect that Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland could lose their rights to have international teams if a Team GB Football team plays in the 2012 Olympics.

if you say that we're anti-english, mention the british lions rugby team and say that England is Britain anyway then your "Olympic Bingo 2012" card will be complete.

Too many circular arguments on this issue and time people actually listened to what's being said outwith London.

FIFA and Sepp Blatter have not guaranteed anything. There is nothing in black and white that says going ahead with a 'Team GB Football 2012' will not have an effect on the current status of all 4 UK football associations and their rights in FIFA, the IFAB and to play internationals and have club sides compete in tournaments like the UEFA cup and Champions League.
