Obama's community army 3:14pm on 05 Dec 2008 Writing from "Virgin Utah" I can say that Obama is more supported here than any other Democratic politician in memory. The votes for him during the primary was overwhelming. He had the largest Democratic turnout since LBJ in the election (about a third) while the state had its lowest turnout in years (something like 66%).
The Mormon backlash 4:37pm on 19 Nov 2008 I'm LDS, and fairly liberal (I vote for Green as often as the Dems, for instance). To be honest the LDS Church did have an effect on the Prop. 8 vote- but no more so than the Catholics Church or various Evangelical groups that also backed the bill with both time and money. In America it is still acceptable to publicly disparage certain groups (though it is not okay for others). Unfortunately (and ironically) this includes both Mormons and Gays.

Frankly I'll just keep being LDS because it works for me (or, according to some people here, because I'm brainwashed - go figure) and letting others live their lives. Prop. 8 will be repealed, though not soon enough.
Stretching America 5:10pm on 05 Nov 2008 I think that Obama will not stretch America as he will his party. Though perhaps to early to call I can see President Obama (damn that feels nice to type) moving the Dems to the center and, as a result, the rest of America slightly to the left. His effect will be similar, if in an opposite direction of, President Regan.
Material girls 01:44am on 17 Oct 2008 Ah, the "champagne liberals," I am ashamed to say we share many of the same views. While some commentators have looked at how the Republican party is fracturing this year, I think the Democrats have some deeper divides- the blue collar socialism and "elitist" white collar version. I know which side I'm on.

The end of 'trickle-down'? 6:11pm on 15 Oct 2008 It is unfortunate but true- it took a total meltdown for many of us Americans to realize Reganomics was more fantasy than reality. This change in how we perceive the world and the economy will probably shape American government and life (and possibly the rest of the world) in ways that cannot even be conceived currently. Though it is a frightening time to be an American, I am also excited by this.
The Second US Presidential Debate - Live 4:40pm on 08 Oct 2008 I wish you would have commented more on the format of the debate and it's limitations, Mr. Webb. The agreed upon one minute response time was ridiculous, too short to give any kind of thoughtful answer. If I have taken anything from the debates this election it is that the format of the debate leads to short, generalized answers. I really wish a debate would force candidates to speak about specifics, give long time for responses, and stick to one main issue. The way the debates work now, nothing ever seems to be said.
McCain out of Michigan 3:22pm on 03 Oct 2008 "it's a sign that the campaign recognizes how the past two weeks have erased nearly all of McCain's gains since August. "

I wish reporters would just come out and say it- Palin is hurting McCain's campaign. Of course the recent economic crisis has compounded this, but the fact remains, Palin is pulling McCain down.
The Vice-Presidential Debate - Live 03:42am on 03 Oct 2008 This was uninspiring to say the least. Sen. Biden manged for the most part to answer questions but at times strayed to simplistic platitudes. Gov. Palin answered few questions and ultimately said very little. Very few surprises, and I doubt anyone's mind was changed or the election was "swung" one way or another.
