An apology, an architect and an 'audience with Parky' 01:43am on 23 Nov 2009 #20, Busby, you obviously didn't learn to much about australia in your extensive 4 week visit to the country. Please don't equate british colonialism and a country full of poms/anglos(courtesy of race based immigration) with our first world lifestyle.
Oz's relative wealth has basically been built on exploitation of the countries considerable (but finite) natural resources and stability in the asia pacific. The british may have brought here EUROPEAN democratic institutions but they have been paid in kind many times over with cheap resources, cannon fodder in 2 world wars and Oz basically being a dumping ground for huge numbers of semi and unskilled british immigrants who had a very dim future in the UK.

In fact over the last 200 years the bulk of UK immigrants to Oz have been low class, low skilled and of low desirability on the part of the UK government, they were better of becoming economic migrants and at the same time boosting anglo numbers in the dominions as far as the UK government was concerned.

Is Australia unusually racist? 02:52am on 13 Oct 2009 White Anglo Australia was founded on racism (and xenophobia) starting with the land, pride and dignity of its indigenous people being stolen by the british invaders through to even today where anglophille politicians (look at the stats) are still getting away with bringing in +50% of immigrants from two basically irrelevant countries UK and NZ, all because they are Anglo.
Imagine if instead we targetted the bilingual, bicultural cream of talent from countries relevant to our future, like the US and Canada currently do.
The only true australians are ones who can trace they're ancestry back thousands of years, (not a couple of generations) the rest are immigrants and no immigrant group has more or less right to be in this country than any other.

So is australia more racist than other countries I'm not sure, but white anglo australia's foundations,institutions and history certainly doesn't help.
Code dead? 03:03am on 08 Oct 2009 #27, you just don't get it do you, no aussies care about the lack of international competetion for AFL they just care about watching an entertaining game of football, something soccer is and never will be regarded as in australia (apart from the world cup final), lets face it to the average aussie they would rather watch neighbours on T.V than soccer and thats a pretty sad indictement.
Also since when was aussie rules regarded as a colonial sport and also by the way the biggest participant sport in australia would be surfing +/- other beach related activities, not very colonial either.
Which is amazing considering the flood of poms into this country seeking a better life over the last 200 years.
Should Poms be denied the vote? 02:10am on 25 Jun 2009 not only should foreigners who can't even be bothered to take up citizenship not be allowed to vote (no brainer that one) but in addition considering race based immigration policies by australia's notoriously anglophille politicians and bureaucrats have allowed more poms into this country than any other on the planet, there's even more here than in the US and Canada combined (mind boggling stuff). Anyone born in the UK because of obviously perceived bias should not be able to vote for the inevitable up and coming (equally no brainer) referendums on this pathetic situation of the country not even having its own flag or head of state. Grow up Oz your future is tied to the asia pacific not to some former mid sized european colonial power located on the other side of the planet.Symbolism is everything.

Statistics show less than 25% of the countries residents ancestry coming from non anglo /celtic stock which in itself is not only mind boggling but a disgraceful waste of an immigration program particularly for an asia pacific country whose destiny is tied to this part of the world and the limited relevance of the mid sized european country located on the other side of the planet from where all these immigrants originate.

So is the average (Anglo) Australian insular xenophobic and racist…of course, they are, they’re products of 200 years of institutionalized racism and xenophobia, backed up by a foreign flag and head of state to reinforce this bizarre notion of anglo’s having more rights to be here than any other immigrant groups.
