Couldn't the country manage without most of the services that these people provide ?

How do other nations manage without armies of bankers ? You know, the countries that manufacture our cars and computers, how to they get along without such a large finance sector ?

My impression is that a high proportion of transactions are not for real goods and services.

It shows how banks create money, out of thin air.

And it shows where the extra dosh came from that trippled the price of UK property.

I had thought that governments caused inflation by printing money but this video explains how banks effectively print money by issuing debt.

One cure would be for us to settle for zero economic growth. A sustainable economy might also solve some other problems. I hate the way that it is always assumed that growth is normal.

Any colony of animals that grows continually must expect an eventual end to it. Bacteria, rats, people.

Funny how this idea is not discussed more. It suits the government and bankers to not talk about this cause of hidden inflation (e.g. where the dosh for the UK housing boom came from, actually from thin air, i.e. inflation)
