Cricket misses the point again 11:25am on 02 Sep 2009 To be honest, I wouldn't personally pay to watch 20/20, or, "tip n run" as it was called when I was a kid back in the 50's....but...the fans of that form of the game deserve far better than what they were served up at OT.
To the person who banged on about litigation and the paying customer doesn't count...that seems to be the view of the ECB who "administer" this great game by the principles of deception and thievery, creating the perception that the paying "customer" is going to get something he clearly is not.
When the "paying customers" walk away from the grounds fed up to the backteeth of being shafted. we'll see what the Devil , in the form of Sky TV does then!!
Well written Ben, though I suspect you were holding your feelings back due to the restraints of the National PC Corporation.

Criticism and banter is good for free speech and democracy (Moderators please note!)The,if you don't like it switch it off, argument doesn't wash. If the BBC dictates it will not publish citicism, as amply demonstrated by the Moderators, then the Great British public will just get second rate dross in their choice of entertainment and everything else.

Ponting left laughing as England get the script wrong 10:22am on 10 Aug 2009 Hmm. if the Oval is a batters pitch, no point sending our lot there then!!.....cheap shot, I know, but just reflects my disappointment.
However, back to the issues.
1) The ECB are killing "our" game with their disgusting money grubbing policies. The collective of Blazers will have been heartbroken, not at Englands loss, or the manner of it, but at the loss of revenue to a 2.5 day Test. The refund policy at Headingley was nothing short of thievery.
You can therefore guarantee Tom, that the Oval will be a 5 day flat track,another "Bowlers graveyard"
2)The abundance of young palyers waiting in the wings with balls of steel and hearts of oak. is a complete vindication of our County set up, and the squillions the ECB have poured in to youth development..isn't it?
3) 16 "backroom" staff I believe England carry now.If headingley is the hiatus of their joint contribution to England's performance then I would say they are all justifiably well paid and secure in their roles..wouldn't you?
4)Incomparable "Management skills"...during a warming game of football yet another crisis develops. and we might as well hang Andrew Strauss out to dry and let him do all those interviews 10 minutes before he puts his helmet on...Where was Andy Flower when his Captain needed his support most?
5)I believe the bowling dept at Durham improved no end when Ottis Gibson left for England, and our batting coach allows our "top" batsmen to get themselves out in the same way, time and time again....hmmm??
6) What happened to the Schofield report Tom? You have inside info..you must know!!
7)It's easy to make the players the main target, and they are culpable. But, as I've tried to highlight, they have monkeys on their backs that no other National sportsmen have to carry!!

Morning of mourning for shell-shocked England 11:40pm on 07 Aug 2009 I suppose everythings been said...Henry Blofeld summed it all up for me when he was commenting on Harmless's bowling....magnificently inept..but..lets take a positive outlook chaps. They are only 190 odd for four..a good nights sleep for England..who knows..if we can restrict the Aussies to 300 or below, and then our batsmen start to earn their contract money, then we could be in with a shout....couldn't we??
Is F1 heading back to North America? 1:45pm on 06 Aug 2009 At last common sense prevails! Every sport needs a strong North American interest, and F1 is certainly no exception.

Ashes player ratings - First Test 9:38pm on 12 Jul 2009 As much as this sticks in my craw....bring in Ian Bell for Cook. Onions for Monty, Harmison has proved on countless occasions that he's not fit to wear the shirt.
16 backroom staff eh?...I'm sure they're earning their money (not!)..
Strauss is playing the game as if he was at Eton....we need a winner, not a sportsman...KP for Captain!
Finally, I hope Lords is not another lifeless flat track, designed by the ECB/MCC to get the full 5 days, otherwise it'll be last years South Africa game all over again
Storm clouds gather over Camp England 10:22am on 12 Jul 2009 I've said it before and I'll say it again......Buffoons in Blazers....have destroyed cricket in the West Indies, and the same breed are doing it here....Praying at the alter of the Money God and Sky TV...at this very moment I don't believe that many English fans would stand up and say..."hey, all this money the ECB has acquired has really boosted English cricket"
A massive humiliation for us in this series will switch the kids off for years, and with no terrestrial coverage switch the bulk of the population off as well.
My selfish desire is that Sky's viewing figures for cricket slump so low that they hand it back to Terrestrial
