News You Can Use 7:27pm on 01 Nov 2009 Good and important discussion...thank you JZ.

Don't agree with JR about BBC Scotland. As an active journalist in the USA, I stream BBC Radio Scotland throughout the day even at work. In total the programing provides a good variety of what could be/should be defined as news across the board (along with the best music bar none).

Is the news business in trouble? Yep and one of the reasons here in the USA involves the corporate news giants swallowing up local daily and weekly newspapers and not focusing on local news.

These corporate monsters also own radio and television outlets in the same cities, so the news becomes homogeneous.

Then throw in production people who think in "bites." Once again you have just the basic "who, what, when, where, why and how." Forget the in depth reporting and/or investigative perspective, so that there is more room for advertising.

Right now I am part of a group looking at putting out a weekly newspaper with just news. Might not be easy, but worth a try.

New project is to resurrect the town crier and that one would probably fly with little effort.

AND WHILE I AM AT IT.....FIX THIS SILLY MESS ABOUT SOME OF THE PROGRAMS THAT WE CAN'T SEE IN THE USA.....BBC RADIO SCOTLAND IS ON ALMOST 24/7 AT MY HOUSE AND IN MY OFFICE. MORE TIMELY NEWS AND MUSIC WE JUST DO NOT GET IN THIS COUNTRY.

The Ghost Is Back, But It's Not On The BBC Payroll 7:00pm on 04 May 2009 What you need to do is collect a good size quantity of
White Sage. Dry it a bit. Then you put it in a container that won't burn ....a pot with a handle works nicely. The you burn it and make sure that it is smoking......and you walk through the building in all the rooms visited by said ghost and that should do it. Not costly and a polite way of telling them to move on.

BBC Radio Scotland is so much better than anything in the USA it gives one pause to ponder.

This rights business should take a back seat to BBC Radio Scotland's ability to reach large audiences far and wide, globally, and do it well.
A Psychopath Speaks 4:26pm on 17 Feb 2009 My friend your quirky web page for Scotland's Music is a killer. If I have any psychopathic tendencies the fact that the interviews and music on that site are "Only available in the UK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

That is so unfair. What must be done to correct that silly error?

I am planning on visiting Scotland for R & R and attending class (at 61 that is a feat) and I don't want to spend my spare time downloading the wonderful discussions that always accompany the music, classical to new rock and my favorite folk music.

You are a forward thinking persons. Fix it!!!!
