Just out of interest, can someone explain why a unified football team, for the purposes of the Olympics only, would cause a problem with FIFA? What has it to do with them?

It's a pity that bitching and moaning aren't Olympic Sports, as the UK would sweep the boards!
Chambers controversy could help athletics 09:58am on 16 Jul 2008 Here's an idea. Why not have mandatory drug testing of all athletes immediately after each event. That way, there will be no way anyone CAN cheat, and so they all will be clean. Might be an administrative ball-ache, but surely possible?
Then we wouldn't need to have this discussion.
All those in favour...?
Chambers controversy could help athletics 09:49am on 16 Jul 2008 DC should be count himself lucky he's not at the Ancient Olympics, where cheats were generally (and often brutally) executed!

Having said that, now to the question in point.

I have a foot in both camps, here:
1. DC cheated, served his ban and is now free to compete again. Fine.
2. The BOC lifetime Olympic ban clause was in place when he cheated, so he knew what he was playing with. Fine.
3. The BOC is (as far as I'm aware - please correct me if I'm wrong) the ONLY one to have this lifetime ban clause. Now that can't be right, surely.
