England get luck of the draw 01:26am on 06 Dec 2009 Some people talk absolute rubbish on these boards. Just a mere mention of the word 'England' and people whip the knives out. "quarter final team...", "not as good as...","...is a rubbish player", etc. You know the type of comment. I mean, there is even some one on this board complaining that we don't have a tough enough group and that we qualified through an easy group (a group that contained a team who only 18 months ago were touted by many as being capable to win the Euros, a team who we tore apart twice).

Can we not all just accept that England have a good team, a good manager, and do have a chance in this World Cup, just as many other teams do. There is no need for this mindless Anglophobia.
Time to play England's 2018 trump card 10:46pm on 26 Nov 2009 Ok, Firstly, I don't read the Sun. I fail to comprehend how being aware that Hull is a horrible City makes me a Sun Reader. I have been there plenty of times having grown up just up the road in Scarborough. I know Hull; decent City Centre but the rest is a tip. Hardly the type of City we want to document to the rest of the world. Someone states that Hull also pull their fans in from North Yorkshire - this is true to an extent, but believe me, having grown up there i did not know one single Hull fan, many many Leeds fans however. If you want to play the 'who has the bigger fan base' game you will lose. Anyway, that is not important.

Why would it make sense to over look the fourth biggest City in England, with one of the most successfull teams in English football, an adequate stadium, great transport links to the rest of the country etc. for Hull; a City out on a limb, not particularly well connected to the rest of the country, who's football team have spent just a season and a half in the top flight, given nothing significant to English football, and have a small stadium?

There really is NO argument here. Hull doe's not deserve to be a host city for the sole fact that they have been in the Prem for a little more than a year. Hull honestly does not come above Leeds or Sheffield in one count.

It may seem irrelevant to a world cup bid, but it isnt. Premiership money makes a huge difference to small clubs like Hull, Leeds, Sheffield etc. Hull have the income to expand with confidence. The others cant have this confidence. Even if Leeds get out of Division 1 this season, they are a long way off the days of the Champions League!

Oh Lord. Hull have one and a half seasons in the top flight and all of a sudden they are a Mecca of modern day football??

Apart from the fact that Hull is and always will be a dump, they bear almost no relevance to the bigger picture of English Football (i.e. no history/heritage)and the KC stadium will need to be almost doubled in size.

contrary to what you believe, Hull are not in a good financial state at all. They will struggle to survive when they go down (when, not if). Plus, by you own words If Premiership football is going to be important, then by the time it comes around (or even half way between now and then) the chances are that Hull will be back in their home of the lower leagues. The difference between Leeds/Sheff U/Sheff W and Hull making it to the Prem is that Leeds and the Sheffield clubs have the support to keep them there, Hull don't. I would have a wild stab in thee dark at stating that Leeds possibly make more cash in the third tier than Hull do in the Prem anyway.

Never have I seen Leeds seriuosly described as a small club, or the Sheffield clubs for that matter. I do know of one Yorkshire club that are rightfully considered small though...

As highly as I rate Gerrard, I can't help but feel that your club blinkers have got the better of you. Think of it this way: think of how many quality/World Class players has Capello coached during his career. Given the fact that Capello will know fine well that Rooney's and Gerrard's best roles are very similar, and the fact that he has seen more than enough of each, he ultimately built the team around Rooney, not Gerrard. I am going with Fabio's judgement on this one.
England cannot replace Rooney 6:54pm on 13 Oct 2009 I agree that Rooney is our biggest prospect, and his absence leaves a bigger hole than anyone, but we do have other options; Gerrard, Joe Cole, Lampard - all can play in the 'hole' that Rooney does, possibly not with quite the same effect, but all three are world class players. Capello's plan A can work with at least 3 alternatives to Rooney. The absence of Heskey could change Capello's plan A more than Rooney.
Ferdinand must sharpen up 2:33pm on 11 Oct 2009 Not surprised to see a ton of 'Rio is over-rated' comments, although I wouldn't say that is necessarily true. Not too long ago Ferdinand was widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best central defender in the world, he has been an absolute rock for both England and Man U over the years, but something seems to have changed recently. Either he is actually losing his game and isn't the player he used to be, or his own arrogance and laziness has got the better of him. Either way, he does not deserve his place at the moment. I simply don't trust him in an England shirt anymore, which is very sad because only a year or so ago I would not have swapped him for any other defender on the planet.
Premier League & England Q&A 9:00pm on 24 Sep 2009 Lionrajo - Quite simply Beckham in his prime was trully world class and one of the best on the planet, he was nothing other than successfull everywher he went, and Rooney currently is one of the best on the planet and is only going to get better. Do I sense anti English feeling here? We do produce world class players, but in an entirely different vein to the South American/Southern European type. We play a different brand of football.
Premier League & England Q&A 5:41pm on 24 Sep 2009 These 'Rooney is over-rated' coments I see almost daily on 606 are getting a bit laughable - good to see your view on the matter . 90% of the time it is admittedly other sky4 fans who can't see past their blinkers. As a Leeds fan I shouldn't be finding myself sticking up for a Man U player, but the lad is absolute class, to suggest anything otherwise is plain rediculous. It seems like no matter what the lad does he gets slated. Of course he doesn't have the skill of Messi or Ronaldo; we don't make that type of player over here. He is a complete different entity, a very English player. I haven't seen an English player with so much raw natural talent since Gazza, he is almost the complete player at only 23.

He is among the very best and deserves to be spoken about in the same context of the Messi's of this world (who may I controvercially point out has rarely hit his Barca form for Argentina).
Brazil - youth, power, and a distaste for the passing game 12:42pm on 26 Jun 2009 Finally, some people who echo my sentiments and see through the hype, and not the usual 'Brazil are the invincible masters of everything' drivel that has been written on this thread.

I would never write them off for next years World Cup, but the way some people on here are making out they are so superior to the rest of the world is just plain deluded.
