Harmison and Anderson shine for KP 8:13pm on 07 Aug 2008 eseverage- no need to apoligise for having an opinion. But Strauss has not achieved a single score of 50+, at an average of 20.33, after a good series against NZ.

Cook continues to show great potential, but again we've seen him throw it away with a poor shot when set. Three times in this series he has been on scores of 50+ and failed to convert. Worst of all was at Edgbaston in the 1st innings, when he had a duty to haul his faultering team above 300, but was inexplicably rooted on his back foot to a good length seaming ball.

Im sorry but i don't see this as one of the plusses.
Harmison and Anderson shine for KP 7:40pm on 07 Aug 2008 well very good on the whole. With Broad i was impressed with Kp how he kept him on and allowed him to take the wickets of a couple of tail enders, just to boost his confidence a little, which can be so valuable to a young bowler. Despite this, i disagree with Broad bowling immediately after lunch, as Smith and Amla were still in and took advangae of some poor stuff from Broad.

This is being very picky, on the whole a fantastic day in the field with a great sense of enery, which just hasn't been there for at least 18 months.

Bell looked good at the end, if he could finally realise his potential at number 3, it would be fantastic for England; allowing the selectors to continue with 5 bowlers, which always seems to help England.

Strauss however seems to be right where he was at the beginning of the year, I thought he'de learned not to play poor, nothing shots which should be left well alone. I was wrong, and yet again the England opening partnership looks fragile.

well done to colly, we were all so pleased to see him suceed, and as for kp, yes it was stupid, but then again im not sure how much we should be blaming him, at leats he made a significent score before perishing to dreadful shots, cook, bell, and vaughan all played absolutely disgraceful shots, not even worthy of fat middle aged men on a village green.

and i would also like to mention ambrose, he really steadied the ship and accompanied collingwood to prevent yet another collapse. the feeling in the ground when he came in was one of 'here we go again' but he, just as much as collingwood turned this around.

Frail batting costs England again 00:09am on 31 Jul 2008 well im quite depressed, i have spent £82 on watching england collapse at the first day of headingley, and now the first day of edgbaston. i would love vaughan to have come and stand in front of the western terrace, or the eric hollies stand and explain to us why he is still there. I cannot begin to cmprehend, in fact im going crazy trying to figure out why we don't have Shah in the team.

yet again things seemed ok, but we threw it all away, im going back to edgbaston on friday...probably to watch south africa pile on the runs: our bowling= yet another weak aspect of our game. Sidebottom has caught england test match bowler syndrome and lost his control, anderson is well himself, which seems to be bad more often than great, and flintoff is reliable, but rarely rolls over the entire team.
England bowling lacks menace 00:38am on 21 Jul 2008 sorry Mr Gooch, but you're talking rubbish, Michael Vaughan hasn't looked a test match batsman since 2003/2004. And number 3 should be the best batsman in the team, i think Owais Shah deserves his chance, or even prior purely as a batsman if his keeping isn't uyp to it after being among the best in the county cricket.

Also Vaughans captaincy has been ordinary, Strauss would be just as good a captain.

AND playing their natural game may get us 350 in one day, at the best, it won't get us 400 in 2 days which is what we need to save this test. If they're Test match players they need to be able to adapt their game to the situation so that we actually get a draw.
South Africa hold whip hand 00:06am on 20 Jul 2008 This England performance has been so depressing, and it's made worse by the fact everyone was saying this was going to happen and England must fight hard to prevent it happening, it has just been plain dreadful.

I mean Michael Vaughan is as bad as anyone, hes probably the worst test match number 3 in world cricket, and his captaincy is nothing special, even i can wave my arms about and put fielders in bizarre places. Yet i can also ask my bowlers just to bowl at the top of off and be patient, something that seems to be beyond him.

Ambrose should never bat at 6!!! That is a joke, he has one shot, and his keeping is average.

Pattinson...LOL...i mean this is just handing the saffers the upper hand.

I like Broad alot, but he's just not up to it yet, i'de rather have Jones in for Pattinson and bring Colly back.

Shah should also bat at 3, with Prior batting so well this year he has to play surely, even if he doesn't keep wicket!???
Controversy reigns on opening day 00:45am on 19 Jul 2008 I was at headingley today, and i had a great time as always sat in the western terrace. However i did concentrate on the cricket enough inbetween all the silliness to kno England as a team, and other individuals were a joke today.

Vaughan does not deserve his place, these aren't 'magic' balls, he's just not that good any more. Shah deserves his place at three.

Ambrose is useless, his batting isn't worthy of test match no.9, let alone no.6, and his keeping isn't anything special. prior tops the first class averages for goodness sake!

And Patinson's selection bemeused all of us in the place...i wouldn't have tremlett, he flatters to decieve. harmison has had his chance and has shown he has no rel desire to succeed for England, but Hoggard and Simon Jones however definitley be ahead of Patinson.

Bowden was a joke, i could see it hit his pad, and since when do we over turn catches when the batsman is 10 yards from the changing room?

And A.B Devilliers, well...i guess he's gonna regreat that.
South Africa keep England at bay 2:18pm on 15 Jul 2008 Some bizarre comments have emerged saying twenty20 is better, proven by this game, this is ludicrous, Test cricket has so much more potential. Changes simply need to be made to the ground used.

Lords is a joke, the pitch is awful, and don't use the weather as an argument, it can't have been impossible to prepare a good wicket in the last five years.

Also, the bulk of those at lords are not real cricket fans, this is evident from the amount of empty seats up to an entire hour after lunch, which is quite frankly ridiculous. You won't be seeing that at headingley this week, or edgbaston in a couple of weeks time. Lords is more of a social occassion for business executives to shmoose customers.

Headingley, Edgbaston, Old Trafford all have a truly fantastic atmosphere, combined with the pitches, it makes for good Test matches than can easily rival twenty20 in terms of entertainment.

Lords should be wiped from the fixtures altogether, unfit to host test matches, but oh no this will never happen as long as stupidity, arrogance, and utter snobbery exists within mcc and the cricket governing body in England.
