Monochrome thinking 5:36pm on 14 Aug 2008 If you rush to get concluion that China is a semi-closed society with isolation and ignorance and monochrome thinking, only by the responses in James's blog, I have to say you have isolated and ignorant thinkng as well. Remember, China has a big population, not all the people left comments in James' blog, and not all the people think in the same way.
I accept China is not as free as US, and the social system or political system is not as open as US, but China is in change to the positive direction. China never lacks talented people in the huge pool of population, and they hunger for learning from other people like US.
By the way, billions of Chinese people are studying English, but how many western people learn Chinese?

It seems to me that they discriminate the vocie of a girl on the one hand, and discriminate the appearance of the other girl on the other hand. I don't understand why it is for the interest of Country. It is so shame! It is kind of cheating.

I just guessed maybe bacuase the director of openging ceremony, Zhang Yimou, is a movie director. He may think the ceremony as a art, or more like a movie. All he has done is just for a perfect show. In this sense, I can understand the fake "footprint" fireworks, it just helps to highlight the effect of art.

If James wants to understand more about China, please read history of Ming Dynasty. If people lose confidence to leader at top, they will lose confidence to the whole country.
Limited access 11:40am on 31 Jul 2008 After access to all different kind information, a lot of overseas Chinese people still choose to support Chinese gov, Chinese gov should get more confidence to open media. However, I just think maybe the reason why we still support Chinese gov is beacause we have got education of 20 years in China in the impact of Chinese media. Anyway, only after access to all kind information, positive or negative, Chinese can get more mature, China can get more democratic.
Terrorism threat 11:45am on 25 Jul 2008 :) To be honest, I doubt if I have chance and time to send a text including location, number of hostage, number of terrorists, when I am kidnapped. hahaha......

To be honest, the pain we suffered from history is diminishing in Chinese young people. Although China has a lot of problems, violation of human rights or non-democratic system..., we are still proud of our country. Because we understand how difficult China can feed billions of people, how difficult China can get rid of that poor situation of Africa. We have been working hard, we totally depend on ourselves to build our own country. In the past, we even laughed at ourselves that we didn't dare to veto in Security Council, and always chose waiver. But now it changes a lot. We are still a developing country, but we are going for the stronger.
Yes, James, you are right, we need proper place at the stage of the world with the development of China
Olympic security 11:27am on 15 Jul 2008 I just worry that excessive security measures will diminish the passion of Chinese people to invovle in Olympics, so that the Olympics will get dreary. It should be a festival of people around the world instead of just an important diplomatic occasion.
